i've done that once, except it was a full break except the wire stayed attached.
it was when i was getting parried, the blade wrapped around the parry and hit the guy in the chest. i was given the touch because "it must've broken after the point, because otherwise it wouldn't have gone off".
I had this happen with a BF white on the first day of use.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben
This is dumb logic. That's like saying "people die, so it's fine for me to walk around with a gun shooting random objects."
Your analogy is pretty bad. A better one would be "people die, but rather than staying home wishing you'd never been born, it's fine to go out and live".

Hence my suggestion for you to stop fencing. That way you can "actively avoid" breaking blades... since that seems to be your big concern.
Now, if you knew for sure that on the very next touch (or two, or three) your blade was going to break, I'd agree that it'd be adviceable to stop using it. However, you cant know this for sure. Your idea that "you know that it's going to break very soon" is just your speculation. You dont know anything for sure. In fact I'd be willing to bet that the lifespan of that bent and re-bent blade would not be substantially lower than it would have been otherwise.

You're wrong. And your argument that I don't know that it will break 100% argument is ridiculous. I don't even know that I won't fall over and die in the next three touches.
I just think that if a blade starts taking kinks like that, it will break soon, and using it in competition is dangerous. I don't see how you could have a problem with that.

I dont have a problem with it, I just think your logic is extremely faulty. You dont want to use your kinky blade because it might brake, and hence it's dangerous. But, you have no problem at all using some other blade... even though that one might also break, and hence according to your own logic is also dangerous. It's ridiculous.

A very kinky blade is much more likely to break, so I don't use them in competition if I can avoid it.
This area is Under Construction:I'm still thinking about my signature, but be assured that when it comes to me it will be profound, brilliant, witty, and exceeeeedingly creative.

It's not an all or nothing sort of deal...
Only two things are certain in life: everyone dies and all fencing blades break eventualy (if used constantly).
I have blades that have taken rediculous bends worse than the one in the picture and have continued to serve me well for years. I have also broken several blades that had not taken any extreme bends and were almost new. Extreme bends may shorten a blades life, but I do know that in practice good quality blades can take a bend and still have a lot of life left.

This was exactly my point and why I think mrbiggs notion that his blade will "break soon" is such a ridiculous statement. He may think so, but he really has no idea of when the blade will break. It could last another year for all he knows.
