Array I just saw this and loved it for some reason, thus the two posts in a row... Sometimes a dragon maybe preferable to a squid. Just as a novel may be to a textbook.

Array Commercial rock ’n’ roll music is a brutalization of the stream of contemporary Negro church music … an obscene looting of a cultural expression.

Array How is dark matter like the Hundred Years' War? The war lasted 116 years, and dark matter may not be dark.

Array ""Nothing, so it seems to me," said the stranger, "is more beautiful than the love that has weathered the storms of life.... The love of the young for the young, that is the beginning of life. I am nothing to them. I'm only a list of differences... a list of adjectives to describe what they see when they look at me... a collection of words to define themselves as whatever I'm not.

Array "Moving parts in rubbing contact require lubrication to avoid excssive wear. Honorifics and formal politeness provide lubrication where people rub together. Often the very young, the untravelled, the na¶ve, the unsophisticated deplore these formalities as empty, meaningless, or dishonest, and scorn to use them. No matter how pure their motives, they thereby throw sand into the machinery that does not work too well at best."
- Lazarus Long in Time Enough For Love....The Notebooks of Lazarus Long Robert A. Heinlein
"I think you have missed the most alarming symptom of all. This one I shall tell you. But go back and search for it. Examine it. Sick cultures show a complex of symptoms as you have named... But a dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than a riot.
This symptom is especially serious in that an individual displaying it never thinks of it as a sign of ill health but as proof of his/her strength. Look for it. Study it. It is too late to save this culture - this worldwide culture, not just the freak show here in California. Therefore we must now prepare the monasteries for the coming Dark Age. Electronic records are too fragile; we must again have books, of stable inks and resistant paper."
Friday and Dr. Baldwin in Friday - Robert H. Heinlein "Rub her feet!" - Lazarus Long, Time enough for Love, Robert A. Heinlein "Never moon a werewolf."
