Sabre grip

I have a Leon Paul sabre with a leather-wrapped grip and a Leon Paul glove. I find it difficult to get a secure grip on the handle with that combination. I am going to try a tennis over-wrap but I wonder if there are any other solutions other people found satisfactory.

BTW, which gloves do you find provide the best gripping surface? I have gone through this with other sports (tennis, IPSC, martial arts) and find the golf gloves are by far the best. Baseball gloves were surprisingly poor. They are not much use in sabre, though :-)

I have never really had any problem with the grip on my sabre. My glove is a LeonPaul and I really like it. As for my sabres, I have two that I prefer to use in competitions. One of them is a Leon Paul I believe and it has a leather bound grip while my other blade is from Absolute -again I'm not totally sure but I think it is- and it has a black rubber grip. Not sure if that really helps you at all but hopefully it will.

I have a Leon Paul leather wrapped grip and I don't like it either. For some reason it feels too small and I prefer the rubber grips on my Allstar and Uhlmann sabres. It's not that bad, but it's just moved down to third backup status.

I don't like any of my leather grips, they are all too slippery. I have an Absolute black rubber grip that is very sticky, even the smoothest gloves don't slip on it. I just use an old suede glove with that.

The answer is: Tennis Babolat over-wrap. Single layer and the grip has improved immeasurably.

Oddly enough, I like the leather grip for the use with bare hands. I have wrapped two of my large historical blades this way. It sort of preserves the period look and I am able to pick them up and practice without putting gloves on.
