| Check the Teach Yourself Epee thread by performing a search. Persoanally, I say that you can become moderately profficient at epee without a coach.

| My advice is to swing by American Fencing Supply and pick up Salsburg's video's on epee, they are great stuff and helped me a lot with understanding it. |

| Granted, none of us are Nedo Nadi and had a fencing master for a father, but Nedo won gold in epee from simply practicing it outside his salle' with a few friends.

Nowadays, the top athletes are more specialized and practise only one weapon. The result of this is that if you are a dilettante (like Nedo was in epee) your chances of winning against someone who is a specialist in that weapon are minimal.

| You can apply Foil techniques albeit carefully. The things to be careful of are big whip hits and your stance. Flicking with an Epee is a different beast. If you attempt this method you will probably need instruction from an experienced Foilist who has been at least partially succssful at Epee. I know of at least one good Epeeist who has travelled down this path. You'll end being branded 'unorthodox' by the Epee community and will be probably be moderately successful at pools but (unless you're very good) you will have little success at DE.
A better approach would be to have support from an experienced Epee coach and experienced Epeeists. I see that your club doesn't offer Epee. Try and find another club. If that isn't an option talk things over with the Foil coach. You may be surprised at what he knows and what he can you teach you about Epee. |

| bizarre as it sounds, i did better with the epee when i did not 'study' it. but, the reality is, to fence epee or anything else, you have to eventually study the weapon, the targets, the parries are very different than foil. the thing of over studying a subject is where a person can get screwed up. an example in music would be the person who can play an instrument and compose music, but not write the music down. the difficulty is that one day no one will know how to play the stuff, but on the other hand, it's all recorded..... |

| Texas!!! Hehee, Dart, we're in CA, it's kinda far. Wow, wouldn't that be a long trip...
But anyway, jeeze, why doesn't everybody just stick to foil, it's so much more accessible! |

| Why don't we all stick to foil because its more accessable?
Everyone has their own answer. Mine is that I find Epee to be much more exciting thatn foil. Also, I suppose that subconsiously I am lazy and find epee to be my weapon because although it is athletic, its the least of the three.

| Heidi did you know that some club are strickly epee? Oh dear! That's right. I had so much fun at Bayou City and they had only epees.
I've fenced all three weapons and find epee to suit me best.. The strategies I have learned from the other weapons, I have combined into my own unique style. Just gotta remember Vets get only 10 touches in a DE... I hate that!

| Escrime, where is this Bayou City you are referring to? There's a club called Bayou City blades in Houston which is strictly Epee.
