    Dunwoody Southern Star Tournament...

Theres a big tournament down in Atlanta this weekend, and it could possibly be an A3, but its shy just a few folks.

FRED: Fencing Tournament Info :: Who Is Coming?

    Could we get 9 more A's or B's and 5 more C's?

    Its gotta be possible.

Why is it that epeeists, of all people, are always worrying that not enough ratings will be handed out at their tournaments?

Or that think 9 more highly rated fencers means that a tournament is juuuuust short of making a threshold?

Or that tournament discussions belong in the general discussion area?

Because a lot of epee fencers have high ratings and if everyone else has them then it's natural to want one too. Also since a lot of people discuss their tournaments in the fecning discussion ession why shouldn't he? It's kind of become pseudo-acceptable based on precedent.

No problem. Mixed epee isn't til 12:30. Here's what you do: Combine the "Unrated Mixed Non-sanctioned, novice Epee" at 8:15 AM with the "Y14 Mixed Y10/Y12/ Epee" at 8:30 AM. Ignore the age group and membership rules. Divide the beginners and kiddies into groups of 6 and 15 and have them fence like hell until you have enough "D"s and "E"s to run multiple C2 events. If you hurry, you can probably have 4 new "C"s by 10:30 or 11. Then all you have to do is...

Because no one ever looks at the tournament area?

Annoyingly, on the british forum, they have huge, interesting 10 page discussions on the future of British competitive fencing in a no name area.. Discuss such stuff in off piste!

Funny. A tournament organizer actually did something similar to that a few years ago. Suffice to say, a lot of ratings that were supposed earned that day were yanked by the USFA when they heard of it...

Our tournament is closer than that to a threshold. Only 2 or 3 more for our Winter Epee Tournament to make C1 (B1, if one of them "happens" to a B). Our tournaments tend to be small affairs, our space can only hold 4 to 5 strips, so we look to for 15 to 32 fencers in each event.

I suppose it was bad planning or bad luck on my part, but we scheduled it on the same day as the above mentioned Southern Star tournament...

But to address the forum location comment, my understanding is that announcements are to go in the tournament area. I view D+F+P's posting as more alone the lines of someone wandering by and going "We're having a Play! You want to be in it?" Hmm, I suppose then that makes my note something to the effect of also coming by and going "We're having a smaller, but fun play, you can come to it..."

(Just in case anyone is interested in our somewhat smaller tournament: FRED: Fencing Tournament Info :: More Info)

I won't be bringing any weapons. A bit too old for this one.

I'll be wearing blue & gray. You could try coming along as a scorekeeper. :)
