| On another tack...there have been rumblings that the 2007 Cadet/JR Worlds might be moved from Turkey.
Any news/juicy gossip/absolute prevarications masquerading as informed knowledge?

| Some people just arn't keeping up to date
FIE website 10th November: Ladies and Gentlemen Presidents,
Call for candidatures
The Egyptian Fencing Federation, which was the unique candidate for
the organisation of the 2008 Junior/Cadet World championships, has
just informed us that it has to give up this organisation of these World
Championships for financial reasons.
Consequently, the national federations which are interested in the
organization of the 2008 Junior/Cadet World championships are kindly
requested to send us their candidature by the end of November 2006.
It is my understanding that this is a genuine financial crisis for the Egyptian Fencing Federation, and that Britain might be making a bid, possibly in Sheffield.
Whether they include the cadets is a different matter, as it adds considerable expense and i know for a fact that Serbia is hosting a European Cadet Championships next year. |

There has been talk recently of discontinuing the Cadets and just keeping the Junior Worlds. I have no idea what the FIE will really do for 2008. |

| Belek is correct; the FIE confirmed this with me just today. It is about 40 km from Antalya. It changed from Izmir because of a conflict with hotel bookings there as the result of another conference. There were other bids from other countries (Italy, England) in the discussions about Antalya, but ultimately the Belek decision was made because of space availability and the security recommended/assured there by the Turks (Antalya itself was a place of some concern for the FIE, in regards to security).
Belek is a big seaside golf resort that is about a half-hour drive from the Antalya airport, from what I understand. |

| No I don't, other than that Egypt can't do it and there looking for a host. Nothing is final at this point. Considering that Italy and England both offered to take the 2007 event if Turkey didn't work out I suppose it stands to reason that they might offer for 2008, but that's complete conjecture on my part. |

| from Keith Smith, President of the BFA and FIE Arbitrage: Quote:
Dear All,
I have contacted the FIE and there are about 5 possible candidatures for 2008. The FIE COMEX will be examining them in February at their meeting.
I have also been looking into our hosting it in 2009 but we will need to look at this. The real problem is getting finance as you would need a bare minimum of £250,000 to run this event and quite probably more. I have ben ytalking to UK Sport etc but if we do this we want to do it very well.
I am quietly confident that the event will take place in 2008 but whether iot will be in the UK or elsewhere will depend on the FIE amongst other considerations.
Cheers and Happy New Year.
Keith
