Since when has there ever been a cadet team world championships?
British Fencing is very keen on having a joint cadet-junior championships, they were the only vote that kept it alive for the coming season. However, it adds considerably to the cost, and makes the event unaffordable. The current trend of zonal cadet championships is probably where it will eventually end.
edit: If you're talking about junior team events, I'd stake my life that they would be in there, as the (substantial) entry fees would go some way to offset the cost of the event.

| Highly unlikely on the international level. There was some proposal of adding team junior and cadet events to NACs, to expand our top fencers experience with that format; I don't know how well it was received. |

| What happened to the US? Do we somehow like the idea of having our fencers, coaches, family, etc, who are frequently on both the cadet and junior teams, fly to two separate impossibly far away locations at two separate impossibly inconvenient times? Seems like Britain shouldn't be the only one on that bandwagon. |

As far as i'm aware, it required a unanimous decision to send it to a vote on whether to keep the championships, and Keith was the only one that objected. |

| Well, that implies that sending it to a vote made the conclusion known, which is less well supported so far. |

| Sorry I'm still unclear on this. Is the feeling that there will be no Cadet World Champs as part of the Junior Worlds in 2008, or are we talking about 2009? |

| Cad/Jun WC 2007 Belek Website For those who are interested here is the website for the Cadet/Junior World Championships 2007 in Belek, Turkey. It has a great picture of Caroline Vloka scoring a touch on Becca Ward during last years Cadet WS final in Taebaek City, South Korea last year.
Hope this answers some questions about this year's competition. http://www.escrime-belek2007.com/en/ |

Countries simply cannot afford to host the dual event. It will be just a zonal championship. The only matter of debate is how long it lasts. |

That would not be consistent with eliminating the Cadet World Champs. Any knowledge of this? |

| I've never heard of such a thing, but if it were the case, it would probably be an example of two different factions within the FIE with different perspectives. That's hardly a surprise. |

There is however, huge evidence that the junior/cadet world championships in its current form is too expensive, and by cutting 3 days of the event it lessens the cost considerably.
There are enough non official competitions in europe for cadets that serve the purpose of a pseudo world cup circuit in my opinion. A lot are designed to maximise fencing time (e.g. 3+ rounds of poules). Any attempt to standardise them would only degrade from this. |

| Where the junior/cadet championships will take place in 2008 will be decided at the upcoming FIE executive committee meeting in Lausanne on February 2-3.
Where it will take place has been up it the air since the Egyptian fencing federation withdrew from holding it in a resort on the Red Sea in 2008, citing financial problems. It can take between $250K and $500K to put one on.
A number of countries have offered and it's currently in flux. However, bear in mind that it's an Olympic year -- which spells a number of issues, such as costs, for the FIE.
