| High-top shoes Hey all,
I've been using the Li-Ning high-tops for about a year, and they're starting to fall apart. I have two bad ankles, and really need the rigidity of a high-topped shoe (brace + low-top just feels awkward to me).
It seems like the options I have are the PBT, at least two different Adidas models (Adistars and the "Equipment" shoes sold by BG that, curiously, don't seem to be Asyms?), and the superbly ugly Estocs that Sword Masters sell.
There's not a whole lot of information out there about these.. any impressions or recommendations? I fence sabre, and practice 10-15 hours a week. Thanks! |

| I reccomend getting a decent court shoe (Asics volleyball, adidas stabil, ect), and wearing ankle braces.

| Listen to DFP- he loves shoes.
It's a little disturbing sometimes.

| the key might be the right ankle brace.
the key for me was custom made insoles.
Talk to some sort of sports medicine person, they might be able to hook you up with something that works better for you.

| I've tried the Stabil, and wasn't crazy about it. Also, like I said, wearing a brace and a low-top shoe just feels awkward to me. My left foot (the one I'd definitely be wearing the brace on) is already bigger than my right, so it's hard enough to get a shoe to fit on it properly.
I've read mostly negative things about the high-top Adistars (no padding, weird angle for the ankle), and I'm leaning towards either the PBT or the Equipment shoes. Has anyone tried either of them? |

| if you fence men's sabre, it's not terribly suprising you dislike the stabils.
for a while, I would wear different shoes on different feet (based on padding/flexibility/etc) because of what i needed on each foot.
*shrug* All of my ankle problems are caused by my feet, and getting the right shoes/insoles has solved my problem (mostly), and if I switch to epee, the rest of my problem will be solved. So- you're not gonna get anything you're looking for from me Better luck with everyone else.....

| I fence epee and have had my Li-Ning high-tops for 2.5 years and they're holding up great. I have injured ankles that I am protecting, and I like the support.
Some fencers use the same kind of high-tops used in boxing. You might want to consider this.
