Array Richmond NAC Weekend of Dec. 8th in Richmond, Va.
Any information to share? -

Array Yes, such as, is there an airport shuttle, either general or hotel-specific? What's the drive from the airport like? And is it feasible to walk from the venue to the Radisson, or is it a miles-long uphill trek through a gantlet of panhandlers, like Atlanta? Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array ...and more importantly, what is a gantlet anyway I just couldn't resist.. You can train for strength & speed but heart must come from within.

Array I'm curious about the immediate area around the venue, too. Is it pedestrian-friendly for a one-mile trek, or will we need to take a taxi back and forth to nearby hotels? -

Last time there was something there, I walked about a half-mile back and forth from my hotel. It was okay. -
The area surrounding the venue is very much pedestrian friendly, with sidewalks, pedestrian lights, etc. -

Array I'll be making a documentary at the richmond NAC.
Its gonna be boss. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -

Array Nope.
Its not that kind of documentary.
Its about being a fencing hobo, and the preparation for a large tournament. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Have any cool ideas you want to share?
Oh, yeah, a quick search told me that the airport and venue are less than a mile apart. Is this true? -

Maybe as the crow flies, although that does not sound right to me. Maybe from the outer runway fence... Figure on taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel. Mike O or Tlucente can probably tell you the exact distance and even give good directions if you asked them. But I would definitley take a taxi from the airport to the hotel... Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

The Richmond airport (RIC) is about 9 miles from the venue area. You'll definitely need to take a taxi or shuttle to get from one to the other. -

All shops and storefronts are closed by 6PM or so and not a soul walks around the downtown area after work.
I talked with a shuttle driver when I was there and he said the Wal-Marts and such basically cannibalized the heart of the city by helping to enact certain laws and restrictions to make the downtown completely worthless to be in after work. However, the downtown revitalization folks are managing to reverse some of the rules and such. -

And makes it hard to envision whether it's an area that you'd feel comfortable hauling a big ol' fencing gear bag. -

Array Don't walk alone. Or take a cab, since it'll be pretty cold. -
Still no word on shuttles to/from the airport? -
