| Anyone going to Summer Nationals in SC? I was thinking of trying to go down to Greenville for Summer Nationals.
If I do, I'd sure like to meet some of you people on the boards, if you're going...
Anybody?

| I'll be there, basically the entire week and hope to bring a significant number of other UMass fencers down with me. Significant == a dozen or more.
My events:
Div III MF
Div IA ME (conflicts w/II MF, grrrrr......)
Open Team Epee
Div IA MS (conflicts w/OT MF, grrrrr......)
Open Team Sabre
and then a bunch of reffing to fill out the rest of the time.

| My son and I are planning to go.
So far the only events we're qualified for are:
ME Div III and Vets (me).
ME Div III (my son).
We're hopeful that my son will make the U19 at the Sectionals, he's been fencing well lately.
I really don't see a Div II for me unless something miraculous happens: I've only been fencing once a week for the past six weeks (too much work and assorted encumbrances). It would have been tough even if I were fencing my regular three days a week.

| Yep, I'll be there too. I'm in for Div III MS right now, but if I qualify for U16 MS (auto-qual for Div II MS) I'll also fence in Div II. I'll skip the U16's because I won't be there for that long (U16 and Div III are like 6 days apart).

| I'm 95% confident that I'll be there! Events: Div III Foil, Vet Foil, Vet Epee and maybe, if I'm brave enough will ref for one day, if I pass my practical at the Sectional Championships, that is if I'm brave enough to commit...hmm, I see a confidence issue here!

| I would like to, but it just isn't feasible to take most of a week off from work ( unpaid ) in order to fence one event on a Tuesday, another on a Thursday, another on Saturday...
Why they insist on stringing the events out like this I cannot fathom. ( I notice that it seems to happen less in MF and ME than in other weapons, methinks I smell fish... )
The way things are scheduled I may get to one event. Not sure it's worth the trip for that, though.

| Seriously considering this one, but my work schedule may not allow it. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

| Ahhh...nope. I was supposed to march a drum corps show in Greenville back in '84. We got rained out, but the all-day practice was a killer. South Carolina in summer...yech! |

| Yeah, planning on going.
Div III MF
Div II ME
and either Div II MF or I-A ME since they're on the same day!!
S'ok, I don't think I'll be able to make it to sectionals anyway to try to qualify for I-A.

Dunno if my daughter is going to go. Last year I left her home because she caught mono & I wanted her to recover. This year she has a stress fracture in her foot & I'd sort of like her to rest after NCAAs but I don't have a whole lot to say about it.
Are we going to be in the same place as the Greenville NAC?

That's a yes.
For those that weren't at the NAC, in the nearby area there's 2 hotels, a chinese restaurant (decent), a Domino's, and a Krispy Kreme. A couple of other shops that probably have 0 interest to fencers. Anything else would require a car or hotel shuttle to get to.

| What's the deal with equipment standards? Do we need to have FIE equipment to compete, or just something that will pass minimum specs?

| I've read on other posts that you do have to have real knickers, but non-FIE equipment will pass.

FIEs are not required at domestic competitions. I'd purchased my FIEs before last year's nats, but my previous Santelli heavier-than-a-mammoth jacket would've been just fine.
If you've never been to a large (sectional and above) event, do youself a favor and bring your stuff to the venue the day BEFORE you compete. This allows you to 1) Find the damn place so you don't spend the day of teh comp frantically trying to get there before check-in closes. 2) Get all of your gear checked in at the armory table early so you don't have to fight the ad dash of 500 fencers in line with 18 mask, 32 lames and 100 bodycords (you can always guess who's junior on any given team). 3) If anything fails the various tests (Lame/manchette conductivity, body cord, mask), you can actually take some time and cruise the vendor booths without being in a rush to do so and buy a replacement. 4) If you don't have your name on the back of your jacket/lame or knickes, you'll have a little time to get 'em put on (that IS an equipent requirement at Nats)
Speaking as one who went to ALL of these places at my very first NAC, take my advice and save yourself a lot of trouble. |

| Cool, thanks. I forgot about the name requirement. That could have been embarrasing.
