On the rating system. If someone got their C in 00, they are labled a C00 even when they renew their C in 2001 & 02 since 2000 was when they originally earned the rating?

No, if you earned a C00, then won a C01 tournament, you are a C01. If you win a C02 the next year, your a C02.

Also to add onto the whole "dropping a level with no renewal" thing, you drop a level but your # becomes the current year. So, say you earned an A in 1997. At the beginning of the 2002 season, if you hadn't renenewed it, you become a B02, not a B97.

Actually I think they should weigh it based on where most of the fencers are located. Of course that would make the smaller (number-wise) divisions have to travel more but, ultimately, it would be less travel on average.

From last June's membership report from the USFA we have data which will hearten the mood and ease the travel expense of all the fencers in the Northeast (if they ever adopted this logic):

Sorry about the gap between the table and the text. I just can't seem to get it out of there.

Paolo- Don't we just WISH that were the way it worked. With something like 5000 members within about 250 miles of NYC we'd have stuff up here every year.

Exclusive of the Youth NAC this year, the closest we've had anything in the past 3 years is Charlotte. 3 seasons ago there was a div II/III NAC in New Haven, CT. Yet we have 1/3 of the USFA within about a 3-4 hour drive. NYC might not be the best place for a national event, but someone in this area would be nice....

    Tim,

I'll ignore your swipe at the greatest city in the world.

NYC would be a mess for a National Championship or NA cup (parking, cost etc. etc.). On the other hand, a place like Syracuse, NY is beautiful in the summer (went to school there). Any part of Pennsylvania would be nice, also.

NE is great in the summer, but I guess that it would be too far for the rest of the country.

I would suggest Idaho, but you'll need electricty to run the machines and running water for the showers.

Paolo, don't they have a world cup for WF in NYC? What venue do they use? I agree with you totally though, parking/costs would be a nightmare, though I'd still put my vote in for NYC since I'm so close.

World Cups are MUCH smaller than nationals. The sabre cup held in Boston has (until this year when it's actually being moved into Boston) has been held in the gym of a local high school. NYC undoubtedly has one or more convention centers which would have no problem handling a NAC or nationals, but the cost would be prohibitive. I wasn't trying to suggest NYC as appropriate. I'll take anywhere within a couple of hours of NYC and be happy. (Note: I live in Western Massachusetts, actually being IN NYC wouldn't help me much). There has to be somewhere in Albany, PA, NJ, CT (or somewhere like that) that can host.

Forgive me for throwing politics into this conversation, but I would prefer to avoid ever going to a state whose populace will elect Hillary Clinton for senator.

Or GW as governor? Or Phil Gramm as senator?

There's the pot calling the kettle black...

Why am I going to need to come to Ny as an Epeeist?

'Cause that's where the best ones in the country are. (Which has nothing whatsoever to do with me being here; in fact, I'm actually lowering the standard of Metropolitan area épée)

If Id. didn't have water and power why is Califionia keeps trying to steal them. We have running water it might be cold this time of year coming off the mountains but we do have running water. Also we do have power to. Grant it not eveyone as internet access. There is a couple of towns that don't have phone service yet.

True, but stopping in NY first might somewhat prepare you for what's going to "happen" to you in Europe.
