Array Have some vids, how do you want them? OK. I have some dvd video of the 05 european champs. It's your standard raw dvd-r footage in full MST-3000 quality - backs of heads and all.
I can either make dupes for people or chunk it up and convert to flash to upload. I have 5 DVDs of the stuff (and a 6th tape that's not converted yet - I think that's men's epee).
Which do you want?

i'd personally prefer an online version.
and i'm still willing to work on a video archive type of thing. -
I would want both, I don't think I'm helping. But here's my reasoning: see bits of it on the computer, but if I'm interested, I'd buy the dvd and watch it on a bigger screen. -

Array If you're talking cheap/free DVDs that's my vote. Otherwise, flash. -
Although I didn't vote it, I'm thinking now the dancing fencing girls... -
Yeah, chop it down to just the interesting bits, a best of type of thing, first of all. Maybe just the semi-finals and finals? "Life is like a wheel, where everyone steals, but when we rise, it's like Strawberry Fields." -

Array Online would be better for us internationals. -

Array hmmmm, you can put some segments on your site and let people make preorder and you can make DVDs accordingly. -

I would probably not buy any DVD due to shipping cost.
Would the DVD's be region-free anyway..? -

Array I like short clips online so I can have fun watching an excerpt, but like the longer pieces (like the ones I've bought!) on DVD so I can watch at leisure or when exercising "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -
Dangit, where's the "All of the above" option???
I actually would prefer all of the above, for different reasons/occasions...
Short online clips for analyses of single actions (not ideal for full bouts due to file sizes/data volume)
Raw footage DVD for in-depth analysis of entire bouts, specifically looking at bout flow and strategy.
Commercial product might also be interesting in that regard, depending on what kind of slow-motion features the raw DVDs might contain. Also good for demonstrations, presentations, kind of stuff to draw people in.
And, of course, mmmh... Dancing fencing girls... BTW, where they been hiding? Now THAT would be a great way to increase participation/spectator appeal for your tournaments... (Yay, lowest common denominator...) -

Array Now that the server resource issue is on the way to being resolved, I'll see if I can rip a couple of bouts over to flash to upload tonight.

Array Why not just convert it to .avi or mpg2 and release it as bittorrent-files?
That way its would be possible for fencing.net to save a lot of traffic! -
In my experience, YouTube has terrible visual quality, though that might just be a reflection of the sources. I'd be worried about analysing very small actions on something that grainy. -

That way its would be possible for fencing.net to save a lot of traffic! Because I still want it on the site. The flash compression that I can get is pretty good. Still doing some tweaks.
