Jersey Membership

Just got my Club USFA CD in the mail this week and was looking at membership numbers. New Jersey had large numbers, especially given the relatively small geographic size. I imagine population density is a big factor here (I looked it up and compared to other areas and membership), but I wondered if the Division offered any additional incentive to it's members to join? Or if there isn't direct incentive to the members, what about to the clubs, like an equipment grant program, or coach training scholarship, things like that.

I've considered running for the EC of my own Division, so I'm curious what's working in other divisions to help grow fencing.

I blame the high schools, even though many of their students aren't USFA fencers.

New England is both geographically smaller and has a higher number of members (note that, despite the name, the division only includes Eastern MA and RI).

#1 incentive to join? Lots of good, well-run, tournaments.

Brad and KD5MDK both have excellent points...

The NJ division is bloated because of all the fencers in their high school league. It's both a blessing and a curse, and that div is full of problems anyway.

NE is a much better model to go after, and I think it goes beyond the well run tournaments, but organization as a whole.
