Array Palm Desert Open. Come on SoCal, you know you want to go. Anyone from SoCal planning to go to the Palm Desert Open? This year we have a good group from CenCal coming, but not many from SoCal are signed up yet. It doesn't look like there is any extra fee for registering "day of" but you won't show up on the pre-reg list is all. I heard that some LAIFC fencers were going, but I didn't see any on the list. What about No Fear? I see only one.

Array It's a no-go for me. I'll be in NM reffing. There wasn't much incentive considering the turnout for womens foil last year (3). "That was so close to being good!" "Name a shrub after me -- something prickly and hard to eradicate" -

Yeah, I should have mentioned the Cen Cal group is mostly men's epee. Though there are a couple of women's epee as well. I certainly don't blame you for not travelling for the super small events. -

Array A lot of the Junior and Cadet fencers will be in New Mexico for the NAC this coming weekend. That's probably why you don't see them on the list.

Array I believe there's an open OC tournament that weekend too. I might be going to that. Much cheaper A synonym is a word you use when you can't spell the word you first thought of. -

Array likewise, if i were in town Originally Posted by akaiyuki I believe there's an open OC tournament that weekend too. I might be going to that. Much cheaper seriously! between the entry fee, gas, and the other (much closer) event, it's hard to justify. "That was so close to being good!" Yahhhh, 70 bucks to enter and being way out in BFE, I'm probably gonna pass. "Life is like a wheel, where everyone steals, but when we rise, it's like Strawberry Fields." -

I guess we are the suckers for coming. I agree the $70 is really steep for such a... limited event. I'll give this event another season to try and get established, but if it continues to be poorly attended and expensive, I'll have to give it up.
It doens't help that it is up against an Orange Coast Division event the same weekend, though I gather that is not the OCD's fault, but rather the PCS for not getting the schedule set early enough for the OCD to schedule around it. -

I think the Orange Coast dates are set at least a year maybe two in advance and the NAC B is usually around Veteran's day. Wouldn't it be more logical that the PCS work around the USFA and OCD, not the other way around?
($70.00 entry for Palm Desert vs $10.00 for Long Beach and the Palm Desert men and women events on different days are other reasons registrations may be low.)

$70?? That's a Div 1 NAC price, before introducing New Mexico and the OC conflict. Personally, I am perfectly happy paying 15 quid this coming weekend at the Welsh open, where everyone and their brother will be. -

Orange Coast sets up the schedule in the 1st quarter of the year. Palm Desert (because of basketball) was given the choice of any weekend they wanted as long as the weekend was the 11th and 12th of November.
For me, I had promised to go to the 50th San Francisco Viennese Ball last November. This is not a good weekend. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Well, it made A1 for the women's epee! That is cool. Now if only the women would use their charms to get the guys to come... Similar Threads -
