| Albuqerque NAC - Food :) OK. Any words of advice on where to find good Southwestern food within walking distance of the venue?

| 9pm might not be late enough. Also, I'm a bit spoiled by the flagship store being on my way home from work.
That said, I'd like to hijack this thread to ask if the host hotels have an airport shuttle that will be running on Thursday night. |

| Unfortunately there are only a few restaurants opened near the venue in the evening, especially on the weekend. Unless things have changed since last year. Old Town is not that far away and the University/Central Ave. area is also accessable. As with any college area there are lots of choices.
Even good Korean and and other Asian food. If you go on the Frommers website they list recommended restaurants and their areas. Your hotel should be able to make suggestions and last year the Albuquerque people had a table set up and they were great about helping out and steering people to restaurants, etc. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. |

| As I recall last year the only restaraunt that was open past 9:30PM (when WS finally ended) was a brazilian BBQ one where we basically were served "leftovers" as they were trying to close by 10. (which everyone ate with gusto of course being STARVING) |

| The phone numbers of good pizza places or any other restaurants that will deliver to hotels would be great. |

| There is a good place to get BBQ. The County Line (of San Antonio and Austin) has a place in ABQ. The County Line, Tramway Blvd. at Tramway Road (505) 856-7477. |

| The sketchy-looking Mexican place a block south of the Embassy Suites is quality.

| True, ABQ is tough to do without transportation. However, if you do find a car it is a gorgeous view of the city at night from where they are located. |

| If you're not opposed to making use of public transit, you're a 1$/15-20 min. round trip from The Frontier (Central & Cornell - open 24 hours, has fresh tortillas and good Carne Adovada), El Patio (Harvard, south of Central), Bandido Hideout (just west of Yale on Central - decent mole, sauce made of chocolate and red chile) and Bumblebee's Baja Grill (west of Carlise on Central - few choices of fresh salsa, good burritos). That's all I can really think of in terms of local (new) mexican restaurants a quick trip away.
El Norteno offers decent authentic northern mexican food (great mole), but it's a little difficult to get there without a vehicle - they're located on Zuni, east of San Pedro I believe.
For non-specific cuisine within walking distance of the venue itself, I would recommend Tucano's (Brazilian that someone mentioned above - it's at 1st and Central), Sushi King (just west of 1st and Central), Gold Street Caffe (on Gold, between 2nd and 3rd I believe - offers american diner type cuisine, as well as some decent southwestern favourites) or Relish (on Central, maybe between 3rd and 4th - they have a few tables outside but they mostly do sandwiches, salads, etc. to go). Standard Diner isn't too bad either, located at Central & Arno, nor is Slate Street Cafe, on Slate (1 block N of Lomas) between 5th and 6th. Both are upscale diner style restaurants.
As for deliveries - I recommend Brickyard Pizza (505.262.2216), NY Pizza Dept. (505.766.NYPD) or Giovanni's Pizza (505.255.1233 - may not deliver downtown) - Bandido Hideout will also deliver (244-1360). I also happen to have numbers for Relish (505.248.0002) and Sushi King (505.842.5099) if you're looking for somewhere nearby the venue to call in an order to go.
I'm an Abq. native and will be helping out at the tournament in some capacity or another, so if there are any more requests/questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
By the way - that Whole Foods Market is probably a 30 minute drive away.

| Food/Electrolite Balance. Why not just eat at the hotel instead of taking a chance with unknowns just before you fence. If you want a smooth trip without getting sick: don't eat anything too different from the foods you normally eat. But if unsure:
Day before
AM:
cold cereals or hot cereals in the am.,hotcakes, fruit with yogurt
Lunch:
chickens are still okay - broiled/baked - beef takes longer to digest
potatoe - with plain yogurt, salad
Dinner
light before the next day I like pancakes/with bu and sausage.
I am a fan of carbohydrates rather than proteins as they take longer to digest as well as lipids. As we also went crazy talking about electrolite balance: don't forget plain water, evian water has minerals; gatoraid; sodas are good, however carbonated and somewhat gassy; grapes have natural water. Whatever brought you success in your Divisionals. |

| I've had some good luck with eating a breakfast rich with casein proteins and complex carbs. Basically, a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of cottage cheese. During the tournament, I just eat powerbars, a whey shake and a banana.
Oh yeah, lots of water.

| We had a great middle eastern dinner tonight in ABQ. Killer soup, fresh salmon kebabs, good appetizers, belly dancers. No wait.
It's called "Pars", located about 3-4 miles N. of downtown in a shopping complex at the NW corner of I-25 and Jefferson. |
