Tuesday, November 7th is the day for mid-term elections around the country (United States) and I want to know how FNet members voted:

I didn't vote yet, since it's Monday. Though I don't like the looks of republicans, they haven't done a good job of running the country. The Democrats seem like a bunch of whiners, and I wouldn't trust them with the government. And to be honest, I haven't looked at any of the independants either. Guess I'd better get to studying.

I voted democrat across the board.

Except oddly enough, my Senate vote was for an independant. It was Lieberman, however, so it's basically a democrat vote.

I guess I'll say in the poll that I voted democrat.

(And I did already vote because it was an absentee ballot.)

Also, is anyone else living in Massachusettes immensely enjoying the wine in drug stores ads?

Voting - and Carving up the Kingdom

Since we get more accomplished on Fencing.com than the elected officials, [for the most part anyway], I did not vote this year.

I don't blanket vote for any party because they all suck and only care about getting re-elected. Straight party ticket voting is lazy and encourages people not to do their homework. There are asses in both parties.

I vote based on the individual and their position on key issues I care about.

I'd also like to say that if you have no idea what the opinions of your candidates are, and haven't bothered following the races, I'd rather you didn't get out and "rock the vote"

Anyone think it's a bit fishy Saddam getting his death penalty so close to the US mid-terms, when Bush was needing something to boost his ratings?

Sorry, I can't take anything you say in the politics forum seriously now. If you don't participate you have no right to complain. Even if you choose not to vote for elected officials you can still vote on local referendums and such.

I totally missed that Amendment! Or maybe it was in John Hancock's signing statement?

As far as voting goes; my district was boring: Spitzer for Governor, Hillary for Senate, and Slaughter for Congress are unbeatable (and the GOP didn't even try). I'd love to see Randy Kuhl or Tom "Creepy Kid-Predator Enabler" Reynolds get booted, but they're in adjacent districts.

Since we had some major candidates running on 3rd party tickets, I voted for them under the 3rd party, in an attempt to make my vote actually do something. (And since we have old lever voting machines, I can be sure that it did.)

You are at liberty to think that fishy so long as you are able to recognize that both parties are regularly guilty of such tactics.

Can you name specific examples where Democrats have meddled in the timing of foreign policy affairs to save flagging approval ratings?

I guess you could make a case for Clinton trying to get Osama bin Laden. The current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave wouldn't be caught dead trying to do that.

OK, you have every right to complain. But you should preface every argument with the statement "now, I didn't care enough to vote, but I think..."

It was tough this time around, because I vote for individuals not for parties, and because I'm new in the district I was only familiar with about three candidates out of the several dozen running for various offices.

So with the exception of the three people I knew about, I had zero basis for voting for anyone else, and (for shame) voted somewhat randomly for all those races.

And the referenda were bizarre, in that the actual texts of the proposed laws and amendments were not provided. I had to choose based on the dumbed-down summaries that the election officials provided. Given that this state has a history of having its referenda blocked by the courts as unconstitutional (and one of them today had already been declared partially unconstitutional), I would have liked to have seen the full text, and decide for myself whether it made sense from policy and legal perspectives.

It was my first time not using a mechanical voting machine, it was one of those touch-screen computer doohickeys. Thought that was pretty cool, actually.

    Oh, please.

Are you suggesting that the US government had a say in the deliberations of the Iraqi court, and in the timing of its verdict?

Nope. Iraq is a sovereign country, with their own culture and own set of values. Messing with their legal system would be absurd -- it would be like pressuring them to rewrite their constitution!
