| Psst! Wanna See Some Pics? They aren't what you think, perverts!
I have a couple of pictures up at my website from the Renaissance Festival, where HilandDoug is playing Athos the Musketeer.
Check 'em out at:

| Ha ha!
Glad you enjoyed the shots. We had a good time watching Doug & the gang. Funny to know half the cast. This weekend is the Buccaneer Beer Fest. Sunday is the Pirate Olympics, complete with bunny fencing. I'll be joining the crew of the Merry Raven for that one. I don't know if I should be excited, or dread it...but it sure sounds like fun for a pirate buff!

| Moon- Cutie Pictures! How cool. How old is she now? And who's the purple halter? She looks good with her eyes closed...
Highland Doug- Which one are you?

| Bethany is now 4 months old. That's her MOTHER in that purple halter top, thank you very much!
Doug is on our left.
The shows were great (sorry Doug, I had to root for the pirates!), particularly the big one at the end. Pics of that are forthcoming. I just have to use the rest of the film in the camera. Of course, the REAL fun will be on Sunday, when I compete in the Pirate Olympics (though I'm not sure if I should be excited or dread it...).

| Umm...I'm the one with no left boot hose. There are a bunch of pictures available from week one. Found these on while checking out the AFR newsgroup. Scroll over Renaissance Faires and you'll see Michigan 2002...scroll over that and click on Week One. 2001 pics are also posted, but I don't think I'm in any of those. Enjoy!

you'll have to scroll down on the pages to get to the "next page" arrow/link. I'm actually the shortest of the three Musketeers, and have a full beard with a bit of grey in it. Porthos is played by the coach of Michigan State's fencing team, and Aramis is played by a black belt expert in psi, and uses 2 daggers with big quillions. The fights are pretty ambitious for stage combat. Oh, yeah, and D'Artagnan is played by a 19 year old (he's type cast!) saber fencer from the MSU team.

| Boot hose? Boot hose? I thought those were supposed to be the turned-down cuffs of
thigh-high riding boots!
I am so disillusioned...

| I'm sorry Moon, but there's just no other way about it: You are seriously attractive.
(Before you get disturbed, I AM capable of simple observation. This comment does NOT mean I'm getting bad ideas.)
(Plus, Rayen would skewer and slow-roast me.)

| Well...according to Calico Jack (captain of The Merry Raven), I AM "sexy."
I really do need a good pirate name, if I'm going to join a crew.

| Inq, the boots are almost hip high and are turned down. However, they are not bucketed, as would be historically accurate. The Richard Lester Musketeer films are exeptionally accurate in that their boots are not only bucketed, but have spur mounts on them as well. However, these boots are not 100% historically accurate, so I had a friend make the boot hose for me. Every fashionable Frenchman had them in those days, as it allowed you to showcase some wealth by an extra display of lace, which was expensive. The other two actors really liked the way they looked, so I had some character-appropriate boot hose made for them as well. In some of the pictures, Porthos (L. Dale Walter, fencing coach at MSU, and writer/direetor of our show) has forgotten his boot hose. The guy that plays Aramis, Calvin Simmons (black belt, I forget which style of karate) loves his so much he is never without them!
Mary, don't forget the most important guy who thinks you're hot: your hubby Greg!!! |

| Here's a pretty good picture of the whole outfit:
go to: http://www.happybubble.com/
click on "pictures" at the top of the page, then Michigan Renaissance Festival 2002, Second Weekend: Highland Fling, Page 3, picture #2:

That's me on the left as Athos, and Ryan Judkins, saber fencer from Michigan State, in the blue as D'Artagnan. Ryan got me pretty good in both thighs during rehearsal. One bled pretty good, the other just a little. One of the pirates got me in the left love handle pretty good, and there's still a scar. I kept trying to remind them that in stage combat, you're supposed to MISS. |

| He's actually looking at the cup hilt hanging on my left side. That little fella was FASCINATED by our weapons, and we made his day when we allowed him to feel the weight of our rapiers and daggers.
I wish I had a few pictures of the looks on women's faces when I and the other Musketeers kiss their hands and bow. The older women get such a kick out of it! |

And someone ELSE I know cut another someone ELSE I know on the finger during one of the fights. Who could that have been, Doug?
