| Men's Epee Fantasy Game Following on from 355's foil game, here is a game for Men's Epee (apologies to 355 for the blatant plagirism):
1. Each contestant gets to select 5 senior men's epee fencers of the 485 fencers who are currently listed on the FIE website.
Go to Résultats for Type: Classements, Armes; Epee, Sexe: Masculin, and Catégorie: Senior.
The Total points for each fencer are listed in the first column after each fencer's name.
2. You can select any five fencers but the total number of points cannot go over 300.
3. You don't have to use all 300 points. Your total points of all fencers can be less than 300.
4. You must select 5 fencers. You cannot have less than five and you cannot have more than five.
5. You cannot change any fencers you have selected after November 24, 2001.
6. You cannot select the same person more than once.
The SCORING
1. Go to Résultats for Type: Compétitions, Armes; Epee, Sexe: Masculin, and Catégorie: Senior; and Type Classements to obtain information for scoring.
2. If your fencer got first place in a competition, you get 50 points.
If your fencer got second place in a competition, you get 25 points.
If your fencer got third or fourth place in a competition, you get 15 points.
If your fencer got fifth through eighth place in a competition, you get 5 points.
3. If two of your fencers placed in the top four, you get 10 points.
If three of your fencers placed in the top four, you get 20 points.
If four of your fencers placed in the top four, you get 40 points.
4. For each fencer you have in the top 100, you take 101 and subtract their ranking and multiply that by 2.
5. If you have a fencer who was ranked below the top ten and moved into the top ten after a competition, you get 50 points. If you have a fencer who dropped below tenth place but later went back up into the top 10, you get the 50 points.

| This looks like a lot of work to me. And there's arithmetic involved. I hate arithmetic. Numbers don't like me. Besides, I fence sabre.
Quit it now. It's hopeless, and success is after all an illusion...

Were there any fencers there except French, Portugese,a few Spaniards and a few Americans?
My guys better start showing up for the comps!!!!
Do I get any points for the Hungarians winning the team comp (Kulcsar and Kovacs)?
Paolo

| Hey Paolo
I know how you feel.

Dont worry though you still score points for those fencers still in the top 100 (in terms of rule 4) |

| 172 for Hansen + 26 for Denis = 198. Looks like I am off to a slow start this time :-).

| Hi
Guys you are all scoring incorrectly. Scoring conditions 4 & 5 refer to the updated FIE ranking AFTER the competition of ALL your selected fencers, not the fencers' placing in the comp. Therefore, whether your fencer fences or not is irrelevant, you still score (in terms of this rule). Of course his ranking will probably decrease if enough comps are missed.
Thus Veeco, your score should be in the region of around 520, Paolo, yours is in the region of 640.
Check the scoring conditions CAREFULLY and recheck your scores! |

| Thanks for the tabulation.
Is it possible if you could write down the line-by-line tabulation for each person? I don't have the time to calculate my score and am interested in where I got my points. |

| Yo
OK as far as I can remeber I was the only one to score competition bonus points for a top 8 finish (Obry 2nd).
The rest of us all scored world ranking points and world ranking points ONLY. They are:
355: Gorabtchouk 172 Fekete 164 Karyuchenko 156 Kovacs 126 Imre 122
Paolo: Schaier 174 Kulcsar 134 Kovacs 126 Zakharov 114 Fischer 98
Veeco: Hansen 170 Flegler 166 Fekete 164 Denis 24 Shong 18
Latenight: Marik 184 Sepulveda 180 Jendrys 72 Malmgren 40 Pioc no points as he isnt in the top 100.
The secret is to select 1 or 2 fencers ranked 10th to 15th. These guys will score lots of world ranking points as they are highly ranked. They will also score bonus ranking points as they will move in and out of the top 10 often.
These guys will also score competition points as they should finnish in the top 8 fairly often.
The rest of your guys shouldhave been in the 30th to 45th bracket. These guys will score lots of ranking points (in excess of 100 each) and will if you have chosen carefully score competitition points as they have flashes of brilliance.
If you dont believe me check out my foil selections and 355's foil and epee selections

Here endeth the lesson

| The Tallin results are in. Once again, my guys (except for Zakharov: 35th and 2 pts.) decided to take a vacation.
Decent showing by the US boys though: 7th, 18th, 21st, 26th, 55th and 63rd.
Our friend Meelis Loit finished 16th (must have gotten his socks fixed).
Cyranox, you going to do our work for us again?
