Canada, in my experience, looks to the U.S.A. for many many things.

We're also keeping an eye on Russia, because they seem to be eyeing our North rather covetously.

We keep abreast of Afghanistan, although it mostly amounts to peacenik outcries whenever tragedy stikes another Canadian there.

But, like I said, most of our focus is on the United States. Not for news or political developments, largely, but rather in a cultural sense.
Canada is very much like a little brother crying "me too!" whenever his big brother gets some new and shiny plaything.
