Array West point won't get him a sabre lame? The Army is being chintzier than usual. If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

Array The Army "team" is a club, not a varsity sport, therefore there is no funding for individual equipment. Nor, does there seem to be any funding for lodging/food when they travel to at least the Service Championships. Last year the poor kids had to pay for these themselves (albeit, the Army did pay for their transportation). Am trying to find out who controls those kind of funds at the HQDA level. -

Array Well, you know what they say about military intelligence. BTW that joke makes my dad crazy, and while he spent time in the army back in the dark ages--as I like to say when I'm teasing him--I didn't think he enjoyed the experience all that much. Array Making sabre fencers out of epeeists makes perfect sense to me... Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array I think I am going to get him one of the new washable silver lame from BG. I had to make him two new bodycords for his long reach. He used to break his bodycord at the connect because of his lunge. The standard cord was too short.

Array Tim, I would highly recommend the Infinity Saber Lame. They are light, pretty durable, and washable. I know a few people who use them and are very happy with them. -

Array And add to the fact that Infinity isn't currently making any more which makes getting a new one a tad difficult....

But then again, shouldn't the club team have equipment of it's own? Or should I refer to the above quote... Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it. -

Array Sam- my understanding is that Jeff Salmon was having difficulties with the manufacturer or something (I don't have any details). Then the design firm that did the patterns (and still had them, Jeff apparently DOESN'T have a copy) misplaced them somehow. IIRC, Jeff doesn't currently have the patterns, patterns are expensive to get made up, he's trying to get the original design firm to find them.
But I don't really have any details and most of the above information is at least 2nd-3rd hand so mileage may vary and I don't vouch for any of it.

Array Originally posted by Mergs The Army "team" is a club, not a varsity sport, therefore there is no funding for individual equipment. Wasn't fencing *required* at one time at West Point? Patton must be turning over in his grave. He'd be happy about this sabre business, though. I think he wrote the last U.S. Army manual on the use of the cavalry sabre. -

Array Yes, it was required and here are two interesting facts. The title of the head of the Athletic Department (and he insists on keeping it) is 'Master of the Sword'. The cadets are better off then the midshipmen, they are not even allowed to have a club. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Yes, let's call the headmaster of sport "Master of the Sword", and then not teach the students how to use one.
Wow. What a master. Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it. -

Array And what accredited institution awarded him the title "Master"? Similar Threads -
