Array The Moon is Out! Hey gang, I've survived the amnio. It appears that the baby is only measuring 15-16 weeks, not the 17-18 weeks that was originally thought. I'm pretty darn sure that I miscalculated the first day of my last period (heck, it was sometime in July...that's all I remember!), & that's what started the whole mess in the first place. We had the amnio anyway...just in case.
Can I just say...OUCH!
Baby didn't want to settle down to get a clear shot of just who he or she might be, so we'll have to settle for the results of the amnio, or the next ultrasound (both due in 3 weeks) for that info. Baby did allow a couple of pictures, one that is online: http://www.marygibbs.com/images/ultrasound1.gif
The doctor fenced at Princeton for four years, and told us that they call the procedure done yesterday...ready for this? "Fetal Fencing."
So, it appears that my little guy or girl is already a seasoned fencer! "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array Willow feels it's a girl too.
And that machine had BETTER take good, clear pics...the tech told us that it's the best one on the market!
I have another one of the front, as well as a foot, but haven't scanned them in yet. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Very cool Moon!
Yeah, isn't that amnio needle the biggest needle you've ever seen, let alone have inserted into your body? I live to fence and fence to live!! -

Array I didn't actually see the needle. My BRAVE husband watched them insert it. He could see it on the ultrasound too (they have cameras mounted near the ceiling, for a good view). After the needle was in place (for all you strong of heart people...hee hee..), the doctor added the syringes that would collect the fluid. The betadine rolled off my stomach onto the table. I swear it felt like blood!
I was too busy doing breathing exercises to look. But the doctor was good enough to discuss fencing with us...that helped. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."
