    Knicker conundrum

    Hello all,

I own a pair of allstar FIE knickers (the ones with stretch panels); I've had them for 1.5 years and they are literally coming apart at the seams. I need a new pair and am wondering a few things:

    a) how stretchy are the startex (or the Olympia uhlmann equivalent or the PBT equivalent)?
    b) with less stitching, would the startex knickers last longer?
    c) is it worth the ridiculous price to buy the startex?

    Thanks for the help!

Ive tried on the olympia/startex range, and while I did not spring for it (I got the world cup pants instead), its moderately more flexible. Its not like underarmor stretchy though.

It would probably be cheaper to lay off the donuts then to buy the expensive pants.

I believe I have in the Product Review section...

    Anyway, in short:
    • Allstar 'World Cup': So-called 'stretch' panels which IMO are not particularly stretchy. The breeches are very sturdy since it's multiple (2?) layers of fabric, so a little better 'padding' against bruising but not a terribly comfortable fit/flexibility.
    • Allstar 'Startex' /Uhlmann 'Olympia': One (1) layer of stretch fabric that actually stretches. They're considerably more flexible than the World Cups. The fit is very comfortable and flexible and won't hinder your lunges as the World Cups would (at least they do to me).
    • PBT: Not a brand I would buy, but they're fairly cheap and a lot of people seem to like them a lot. Judging from clubmates who owns PBT kit it's more yellowish than other kits and the seams seem to come apart pretty quickly.
    • Leon Paul: Have never tried this brand but completely trust it in terms og quality and fit etc. Lots of people on the UK forum will tell you it's ace.
    • Negrini: Another brand I've not tried but looks good and comfortable, judging by people I've seen wearing it.

So IMO the stretchy type of breeches really are worth the extra money. (Oh, and I'm female in case that matters.)

As someone who's owned many pairs of FIE knickers... I can tell you that the seams don't just fall apart... unless the person whose wearing them is much too big....

    Them's the facts, Jack.

It doesn't change the fact that being rude to strangers is a good way to get your butt kicked. I'm surprised you haven't learned that lesson yet.

BTW, we may get a chance to meet in person! I understand they are going to have some Division I NACs in Tucson. If they do and you attend I'll probably be assisting at the Armorers table. Be sure to introduce yourself.

All right folks. Since the issue was addressed, no, the seams aren't breaking because I've fattened. It's likely because I stretch in my knickers and wash/dry them frequently. Also, they're very loose-fitting.

Now does anyone have any legitimate answers to my questions?

Please don't be rude and waste the readers' time.

afaik, the startex/olympia are essentially the same thing and are quite a bit more stretchy than the world cup level uniforms.

Also, from all that i've been told, I wouldn't dry the knickers. At least, not in a dryer as that phrasing implies. Hang to dry only. Plus, when you wash them, use the delicate cycle.

You don't count, you're from sweden.

BLW, my post did contain an answer.

My guess is that drying your knickers is what caused the knickers to degrade. The athens knickers are a poly/cotton blend, and the thread is pure poly. When you shrink that blended fabric, it pulls tightly on the threading, causing it to shred and rip because of excess stress.

    Atleast I think.....
