| Finally home.
It was my pleasure to be worked over by a number of referees at the event. No seriously, thanks. I haven't been ****ed like that since grade school. |

| The funniest thing all weekend was watching TOTD get hit on a fast, direct, one-tempo attack, and have his counterattack awarded as an attack-in-prep. He then proceeded to acknowledge the touch, informing the referee exactly what the action was. Any fencer actually making actions was punished for it, so the pool devolved into a very ugly place.
I forgot to bring my ice skates. Refereeing in my bracket was great, though.

| Also ran into some suspect reffing to make the top four. Guy couldn't see if beats were low or attack grazed the guard (lost about 3 or 4 touches). Also lost right away occasionally. Other ref was much better. Also floors were the opposite (sticky) on Sunday. Some nice fencing in the top 8. |

| The apprentice referee in your bracket will appreciate the feedback. I'll be sure to let her know.

| Thanks for a fun tounament, to all the refs and fencers who participated. The epee was a blast, even though the middle of the bracket was stacked like no other. |

| I know she was nervous from talking to her afterwards, but it didn't really show during the bout. Last touch was apparently a little controversial - the other guy's coach said she called halt early, invalidating my remise. I didn't hear it, but was on the opposite side of my opponent.
She did an excellent job -- only one call that seemed out of place (and it was a close one) in a matchup that should have been 1-2 rounds later.

| While of course, I didn't see all the refereeing, my fencers were well treated on both days, in both foil and epee. I would say that the over all level of refereeing was good, and told several referees as much.

| There was indeed a very good level of refereeing on average at the event. I didn't mean to imply any sweeping generalizations about the officials of the event, just about my particularly good luck with the referees I encountered. |

When they posted the seed into the DEs, I took one look at the top 8 and top 16, and my first reaction was "Who???"... (Of course, I know the names and fencers, but considering those who were at the tournament...)
To illustrate this point, between the 32nd and 48th seed, I counted 7 As... (myself included... drat)
Haven't seen a minefield DE like that in a long time. At that point, it's just luck deciding between the 'easy' path to the 8 and the nigh-impossible ones.
I fenced my best bout of the day in th 16, and wasn't too upset about losing that one.
All in all, kudos to Jeff and the rest of the organization staff. Considering the limitations, very well-managed tournament, and definitely a positive experience. I'll be back (no jokes, please...) next year, if at all possible. |

| - If I had a dollar for each person who walked in front of me while I was actively refereeing, I'd have around $20. If I had a dollar who each person who TRIED to walk in front of me and got a stiff-arm for their troubles, I'd have about $500.
- It's a good thing I sprained my ankle on Friday and was relegated to refereeing, or else I surely would've sprained it on Saturday on the Slip n' Slide floors.
- It was good to have people from outside the MD/DC/VA area make the trip for the event...the quality level was definitely up from previous years. Once the bottom 100 fencers got eliminated in each event, it even resembled real fencing!
