    An ASSault on free expression

Looking at a post on the main board with a keyboard misfire by scarlet...56k, I replied with text that included a slightly vulgar but common expression that in American English refers to the gluteus maximus and ASSociated structures. Lo and behold, this brief term was ASSASSinated, replaced by ***.

I feel slighted. I often note that I was or am presently fencing like *** , or have my head up my *** , or have received a solid *** kicking. The impact is lost with the substitution of *** for the word '*** '. Indeed, it seems asinine (adj. [fr. Latin asinus, *** ] like an *** ; stupid; silly)
to ASSail this perfectly good English word in this manner. Now there are other words that may also be elided here in like manner, but the majority of these do not have plain English meaning and could perhaps be considered game for such an ASSault, but please, let us not ASSign '*** ' to this category of vocabulary.

Indeed, what are the members of the Commonwealth to think of this, where it is somewhat more common to refer to a stupid person as an *** ? And shouldn't 'bum' be struck out as well, and 'arse'? Merde!

Ahem. (The above somewhat tongue in cheek. So to speak )

Maybe this could be made a user-configurable feature if it's so necessary to expunge *** from the fencing vocabulary?

The people running this website can do whatever they want to. Seriously, it's a bulletin board, not the NY Times.

If it helps, the words, "*** ", "arse", "bum", "botty", "rump", "rear-end", "behind", "Glutimix maximix", "podge", "seat", "saddlepad" or "butt" do not offend me in the slightest.

Go to fencingsucks for some real grown-up's words like Fu-I'll stop right there.

I can't remember the URL, Ask Twinkle. He'll know.

By the way. Why DO we use ***terisxeses? Why not #'s or -'s?

P.P.S. Welcome to the boards, Fred.
    I'll shut up now.
