    I'm with Chavez

From his rant at the UN:

"Today we know there were never weapons of mass destruction in Iraq but despite that, and going over the head of the UN, Iraq was bombed and occupied. So the UN must be pulled out of the US"

Behold the one morsel of sanity in the entire trascript.

I dunno about that. If you're going to have an organization where dictators and enemies of freedom have a forum to badmouth the decent countries, wouldn't you rather have it here where we can keep an eye on them?

Someone needs to assassinate this guy. Then again, I do get some entertainement value out of his crazed rantings.

Ah, I see you've been reading out of the 700 Club playbook. Good for you. I was worried that you were against extreme radicals in general.

No, no, prayer book, not play book - you're supposed to Pray for someone to kill him - or for his car to explode...it's on page 667.

    I wonder what's on page 700?

    The Final Judgement, perhaps?

I don't think the UN should pull out of the US, I think the US should kick the UN out. The UN is just a forum for American bashing. Without US money, the UN would be bankrupt. I say we should cut off all funds, withdraw from the UN completely and kick them the hell out. Maybe Iran would be interested in hosting the UN.

The problem is that they know how good they have it here in the US with all us chump taxpayers footing the bill, so throwing them out is indeed the only way it would ever happen. And they'll go kicking and screaming all the way.

I was thinking more along the lines of Somalia.....

    I'm not with Chavez.

Chavez has been a terrible ruler for Venezuela, and the country has reached a new low, but I can see where the people who put him into power come from.

The disparity between rich and poor, a lack of social services, and good public education rightfully caused people to get stupid and angry, and there needed to be change but he wasn't it.

Venezuela is saddled with a bad ruler, but they deserve him.

I'm slightly suprised at the vehemince here. I see the UN as a force of beaurocratic intertia. Nothing can change quickly or irrationaly. Of course, nothing can change quickly and rationaly, but one man's rational is another's... well, just look at the forum...

I was also under the impression that Venezuela was experiencing a period of pretty good economic growth.
After all he is legitimately elected, so if he sucks why is he still in office?

Venezuela remains afloat for one reason only: oil. Otherwise it's just another tinpot third-world country. Poor South America, afflicted with alternating dictators and Communists. Venezuela has got itself both in one man.

I think the UN should move to Pitcairn Island, or possibly one of the Aleutians. Although Elba has a certain poetic resonance. Anyway, the more isolated the better.

A two-bit thug from a third world country comes to this country, mocks our president, our people and our culture then gets an ovation.

That might be fine with you, but it's nice to see it not going over too well with at least a few people here.

Election fraud. He has taken control of the government and media. He murders those that oppose him. He lost the election by about a margin of 59-41 and declared himself the winner. And our wonderful ex-president and dictator supporter Jimmy Carter certified him as the winner in order to avoid more bloodshed because he knew Chavez would not leave power peacefully.

Um... he won that election... look it up.

It was a recall vote... where "NO" means do not recall the president.

It's interesting that the same people who are so willing to give the benefit of a doubt to the legitimate "election" of corrupt dictators are typically the same people that will forever be screaming that Bush is an illegitimate president.

Oh come on, even Carter's aides admit that the election was corrupt and a scam. You are probably the only person in the world who thinks Chavez actually won that election. Chavez may be in power, but don't be so stupid to suggest he was actually elected.

I heard something humorous from a co-worker this morning. We cut a deal with the U.N. The U.N. moves and we continue funding under one condition: no one tells us where they moved it to.
