Think of the sort of person who will be kept off the streets for a few days while reading this thing... happy happy day.

Tolkien's unfinished works do indeed have an unfinished feel to them. I'm not all that fond of them, and they feel like a ploy by a son to capitilize on his father's legacy.

I'd love to see it all in the public domain, but I sure as hell am not going to buy them.

Inasmuch as he lives in France he probably needs the money to pay taxes.

I'm not sure why he's the most qualified to finish his father's works, anyway. There have got to be a lot of competent writers who could do a more professional job of pastiche writing, I should think. Genes do not a good writer make...

Maybe because he manage from the start the unfininst tales off his father, like the 'The Lost Tales' for example.

He's pretty much made it his life's work, starting from when Dad sent galley proofs to him during WW II when he was stationed overseas (South Africa, IIRC), so I guess he's as well positioned to carry on as anyone
