Going over to the dark side It's not my fault, the voices in my head made me do it!! Ok, so I know any story that starts like that can't be good... but I'm serious, there was this little voice in my head going "Fence sabre... you should fence sabre..." So I started tonight and maybe competing tomorrow -- scary, scary thought!! My boyfriend's reaction: "ahh! What?! Dont stray from foil!" LOL But it's fun to venture out into unknown territory once in awhile... "I've had just about enough of your Vassar-bashing, young lady!" -Homer Simpson -

Array Look at it positively: by fencing sabre, you definitely will give your intellect some rest...

Array Actually, I think a foilest can learn something and have fun by fencing sabre. Here are some observations that may be helpful.
1. Attack into prep timing is much faster in sabre. Don't get frustrated by it. Also, you need to adjust your distance back some.
2. Your point attacks can be killer to a "standard" sabrest. Particularily feint-disengages.
3. What you're going to get hit on... Cuts to head can be tough to get used to for foil/epee cross-overs. Feint-deceive/cut to wrist is also effective against foilest since they're not used to the arm being target area.
Most of all, have fun. Your boyfriend is probably just worried about you hanging around sabrest....we can be a pretty motely crew

I resent that! I happen to be both A sabre on my high school team and a competing member of the academic decathlon team....
Of course I still have to put up with all the sabre/caveman intellect nonsense.

Andrew, this was just too tempting a target to pass up...

Array I thought epee was the Dark Side! They have no ROW, therefore, the Dark Side. Right? -
Definitely agreeing with you there. -
Thanks all... I had a great time last night @ the meet, went 1-2 against NYU's sabre squad... so close on the last bout (5-4, lost it by a cut to the wrist just like Link said...) You shoulda seen my reaction to each touch I got -- total disbelief, look at the box, look at the ref, twenty seconds later "Oh yeah!" lol (need to find a better scream, but I'm not used to this yet...)
Soon as our season is over, it's lots of sabre lessons for me "I've had just about enough of your Vassar-bashing, young lady!" -Homer Simpson -
