    Steve Irwin sightings!

Where have you seen Steve lately?

He's still alive, ya know. Irwin faked his own death so he could ... Well, rumors abound. The most popular is also the simplest: He wanted out of the public spotlight. It's also possible that he was trying to escape threats from some whack-job "animal rights" group that was angry at the way he was exploiting Gawd's Natural Citizens. It could be a government thing, too -- not that they'll ever confirm or deny anything.

(Really, what are the chances of a stingray poking a guy right through his heart? And it's not as though his alleged "death" was seen by the general public. Where's the video? The fake documents? ... Very, very suspicious.)

    Anyway.

I saw Irwin this morning on the way to work. He was wrestling a stray dog in our neighborhood. Very exciting.

    You are right!

The evidence all reveals that his so-called death was either compassed or faked by the Zionist-American government complex in order to discredit stingrays and justify a crusade against aquatic life---a War Against Tarpon, if you will.

Either that or he's trying to get away from Olivia Newton-John.

Oh, pshaw. The line of good taste or bad is very much a matter of personal interpretation.

In this case, Irwin is a beloved social icon, and an admittedly somewhat goofy one at that. My harmless effort to start a thread wherein we could share random sightings of the man is nothing less than a homage to his special attributes and an attempt to catapult him to the Elvis-like status he deserves. ... I believe that we'll see a bit of Steve every time we see a wild animal or a neighborhood critter running free.

But, yes, I'll readily admit that for some overly sensitive people, this might be too early.

Just for discussion's sake: Suppose I were to tell you that this morning before I left for work, I was playing with our house cat, "wrestling" with her (so to speak) with one arm while she bit at me. She'd dash through the house, come back and meow at me, then bounce at my hand again. ... Would it be bad taste for me to channel a bit of Irwin and mimic his distinct accent while I made silly comments about our playtime?

(What I find offensive are those who so easily dismiss his death by declaring, "It was bound to happen sooner or later.")

I admit, my own reaction was along those lines. More like "Whoa - When Karma Goes Bad."

All I can say is... Cornflower must be going through hell right now.

Is it just me or is Steve Irwin a total babe?

I don't think it's funny to joke about the loss of someone's life like this.

Maybe you thought he was to crazy or just to wierd, but he still deserves a little respect.

    So...

"This just in: General Francisco Franco is still dead".

How DARE you joke about that!

    "Here lies Lester Moore
    Four slugs from a .44
    No Les, no Moore."

    Oh, you disrespectful ghouls!

"Oh my god! They killed Kenny! "YOU BASTARDS!"

    YOU BASTARDS!

    That what you're saying?

Death is part of life. Joking about it is human. It can be humorous to many. Indeed I hope my own death will not be some dreary, solemn weepfest of punctilious respect and doleful expressions...

I didn't find this thread funny at all.

    However, this really is:

We celebrate life. Celebrations take many forms. Some people prefer solemn consideration; some of us don't mind a bit of laughter.

(Although I have to say, that mocked-up video clip is darned close to line, even for me. Funny, but ...)
