Array What is Fence-off? I was looking at results from divisional on askfred.com from last year. For events that have 8 people or less, they have something call "Direct Elimination with Fence-off", which makes me really curious because when I click the DE results link, it says "Sorry, Display of this type of round is currently under development."
Does anybody on this forum know of this kind of DE format and if so, can you please explain about it?
BTW, if this helps, I am from georgia division. -

Array It would be the kind of thing where instead of tieing for 3rd, the two people who lost in the semi finals would fence each other, and the winner would be 3rd, the other one would be 4th. You could also (potentially) fence off for 5th-8th, too, though that would add a lot of bouts. -

At NCAA regionals last year every place from 1-16 was fenced off. It actually didn't take as long as I expected, it went pretty smoothly but it really took a toll on me physically by the time the last bout rolled around... -
For Divisionals, almost certainly the fence-off was to decide 3rd and 4th place. -

Array For the top-8, everyone would fence three bouts. You get the following possibilities:
1st: W W W
2nd: W W L
3rd: W L W
4th: W L L
5th: L W W
6th: L W L
7th: L L W
8th: L L L
If you have enough referees and strips (4), the time run these would be the same as running a DE without fencing off. It's just that you'll constantly employ the strips and referees throughout. -

Array Thank you all for the information! -

There's just been so much going on, I keep not getting around to finishing display of the less-often-used DE formats. my bad......
At least the data is stored, so when the display does get done, all those past DE's will magically appear.....
