| My ISP Normally, my ISP is a really great provider. I get TOP SPEEDS for a cable modem. Their customer service has been excellent, etc...
Well, I noticed in the last few days my connection has been unsteady. So I called. I was told that there was some sort of activity coming from my modem that was indicative of either file-sharing/p2p or something else using a lot of upstream transfers. They therefore capped my bandwidth.
The rep. I spoke to could not explain anymore, but could email the higher level techs and they'd explain the situation. This could take up to 24 hours. But they might call tonight (this was last night).
I have not heard from them. I have called 3 times. Everytime I am told "we are not on location with that company and can only email them" I respond "So, they work with you, but you can't call them?" "No."
So, as of right now I have a capped connection that I am paying full-price for, and no one can explain why. They have not called me back and I have no way of being transferred to them, or so I'm told.
I buy 3 services a month from this company. Cable, phone and TV. Is my business worth so little I don't deserve a call back?
That's all I want I call back...I've been waiting all night and now all day.
I am so frustrated w/ the amount of idiocy that exits at the "support" center. And I don't believe for one second that they can't call them and tell them to call me.
I am of a mind to call and tell them unless it's fixed I want the whole thing disconnected. I don't know what I will do further expect start calling the call center every hour on the hour.
Do they not understand I am a FULL TIME STUDENT, I spend 4 hours a day in class and 5-6 in the library. I don't have time for this garbage during the week.
I just needed to vent. Any suggestions or commentary happily welcome.
I think if I don't hear from them by 8 o'clock I will call and threaten to disconnect all services. Usually that gets them moving.

| Well here you go; http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cib/fcc475.cfm http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/consumer.htm http://www.bbb.org/
... and you can do all your complaints online (assuming your connection holds up).
You should also check any state offices that take consumer complaints.
So prepare your list of bodies you can complain to, work out the dates you called up and did not receive an explanation and then call your provider explain politely the dates you called and were ignored then explain politely that if you cannot speak to someone who can deal with your complaint you will cancel your service and then list the places you send your complaint to.
Try to do it during the 9-5 day, make sure you get the name of each person you are talking to and stay polite.
It generally works.

| Inquartata's Slipshod Productions.
( Shh! Don't tell him! )
One suspects that the "higher techs" are in India and a phone call to them would be too costly for the bean-counters to permit. Hence the email-only.

| I finally got the issue addressed. Earlier today I called and asked to speak with a supervisor. I immediately ask for his name and badge number. I tell him if he doesn't help me I will call to disconnect and tell them it is because HE couldn't help me.
Suddenly, he became capable of contacting the people in charge of bandwidth caps. Low and behold ten minutes later he calls back and the cap is lifted.
Too bad it had to come to that. . .But it worked.
Apparently I was uploading too much and was flagged for p2p type activity, eventhough I wasn't involved in any.
Idiots.
Cablevision is my ISP, for those who asked.

What I was uploading amounted to MPEGs of Animated Fractals. It is part of a screensaver I have mentioned before on the forum. It works on a BitTorrent, once I download a file I send it back out to other people.
Unfortunately it seems my ISP doesn't like this. For the record these are totally legal and liscened files. Idiots at Cablevision.

Oh but WHOA... those pics of Swordwench are quite graphic and impressionable... it would surely blow his top (if you'll excuse the pun!)
Besides, they're already plastered across the net and in better bathroom stalls the world over... no need to download the fresh copies! There's nothing left fresh about our dear Sword-babe anyways! (hi baby, did you miss me?)
