What is the best SPORTS movie?

The tangential discussion on the best fencing movie thread has prompted me to post this topic...

my vote, which I am sure will come as no surprise, is for Bull Durham.

    1st Runner up: Major League

gee, can you figure out what MY favorite sport is (other than fencing, of course)?

There are so many good flicks it's hard to judge; all of the above are worth nominees, but one I haven't noticed anybody mention yet is Hoosiers.

The original Rocky. But definitely not Rocky IV (with Ivan Drago and Brigitte Nielsen). Rocky II was pretty good, too.

How about "A League Of Their Own"?

    The Bad News Bears.......

Just kidding! The Natural was pretty good.

SäbelFechter already mentioned Rudy--my favorite all-time sports tearjerker movie. Made it a little hard to watch Lord of the Rings, though.

A League of Their Own is tops.
It's truth, and they can play a mean ball game. That's my vote. Or I guess one could be . . . Wind Runner that one's ok.

Chariots of Fire is definitely a great movie!

    Michael Jordan to the MAX

It's more of a documentary but I guess you can call it a sports movie.

Field of Dreams, was a so so movie, but it did have some inspirational moments.
I still go for the Chariots, for any sportsperson, it was totally riviting.
I think the music was fantastic, and the last scene of that guy running was incredible. I really felt like running then.

Field of Dreams is not only not as good as a bunch of other baseball movies, it isn't even as good as the other Costner baseball movies (For Love of the Game and especially Bull Durham).

I hate to run with a passion. I always say if there's something after me I'll run, otherwise forget it. But I love Chariots of Fire. It's been awhile since I've seen it though. I must watch it again. I agree the score is wonderful, so is the score from L'opera Savauge (sp?) by the same composer. I was going to say the Natural as well. Robert Redford is so cool and that's even ignoring the fact that apparently he fences. I was incredibly "horsey" as a child and still am so I've got to say that Phar Lap was a good movie too, so was Sylvester. I liked the Black Stallion books better than the movies though. There's also a movie called International Velvet that focuses on equestrian sports--it's a sequel to National Velvet that focuses on Velvet's niece. Basically, Velvet and her boyfriend have a pretty good life together. Then Velvet finds out that her brother and his wife have died in a car crash and they've appointed her the guardian of their daughter--I forget what the daughter's name is. There are various adjustment problems, and it turns out that the girl's home life was far from perfect. Anyway, she ends up getting the last foal sired by The Pie, Velvet's horse. She trains it as an eventing horse, goes to the Olympics and all that jazz. Of course there are various complications along the way, but that's primarily the plot. It's not the best movie ever, but it does have a few good moments like when the bullies are chasing the main character and her horse in their car. The scene where the team is flying to a competition and one of the teammates horses totally freaks out and has to be shot is pretty intense and very good too.
