Array I feel, that I myself am a very knowledgable Red Sox fan. I grew in Boston, and have followed them ever since I can remember. And yes I do remember that blown call....wait which one? lol. The one where Jose Offerman was "tagged" but was actually about a foot and a half away from Knaublauch's glove????? Or the one were Knobie bobbled the ball @ second base to turn a DP, and he could not get a handle on the ball, yet he still got the out??? Or how about......well I could go on and on. And I will also agree with Mike on the fact that going to Fenway is incredible. If anyone wants to talk Red Sox with me....by all means please, I would love to. -

I've been to a few MLB games, and had a decent time, but in my experience, the minors generally are more fun.
The well-known fact that BoSox fans know lots about their team is admirable; but it doesn't make the game any more exciting. I've been there, tried that, but for my money, I'd wander up to Toronto and catch a Maple Leafs hockey game.
It does make for good Kevin Costner movies, though.

Array Well, back when the Detroit Tigers were actually a good team, the fans around here would remember stuff like that! Now that they blow like the North Wind, the only reason to go to the park is to see one of the coolest new parks in the major leagues.
Back on topic, how good is the fencing in "Sunshine"? -

Array The one thing I don't like about hockey is this, there is not much drama. For example, in a baseball game, the call goes something like this. "Bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, men on first and third, full count, lefty reliever, right handed hitter, and hears the pitch......HOMERUN to win the game hit by so-and so." In hockey a call goes like this. "Thachuck passes to Ridenhauser, who was traded mid-season for Johnson and he was supossed to be HE SCORES!!!!!!" I don't know how well I explained my point, but if anyone else gets what I'm saying, and agrees, try to explain it a bit more clearly for me, lol. -

Array Are you out of your mind. I have played football and baseball. And each takes prep time, work outs etc. And also, who are we to decide what is a sport and what is not. And also I would think a fencer would understand this. In my life, I am not sure about yours, but fencing comes under a lot of seige as not beeing a sport. Although I do not agree with that view point, I no-longer judge what a sport is and is not. Now, I could be wrong, and maybe only people in my area critcize fencing as not beeing a sport, you tell me. -

Array The best way to watch baseball in on radio. Then, your imagination can make it more palatable. Baseball on TV is pretty boring, although with the constant banter of the announcers, it's sufferable. Baseball live is a waste of a good day. First off the tickets are outrageously expensive. Unless you get a good seat near the bases or behind the plate (which will set you back a month's mortgage), you can't see the ball no matter what. So, you're there sitting up in the outfield bleachers. You see a swing and see the fans near the bases move around, ten minutes later, you hear the "plonk!" of the bat hitting the ball. By then, the outfielder's throwing the ball back to the shortstop.
I've been to many baseball games as a kid. I have no desire to suffer again as an adult. It's a decent sport to play, though. I do reasonably well in the outfield or first base. (Several years ago, I was playing a friendly pick-up softball game between vacationers and the staff. The staff started off banging balls way out there in the outfield. I shagged them all, so they had to start pinging them to the right field, so I moved over to center and caught a couple there too.) -

Array Whether Baseball is fun or not is a matter of opinion. I personally say that baseball is both fun to watch and play. I even enjoy watching it on the TV. Don't get me wrong, I don't sit at home all the time watching it, but if I happen to come across a game, I'll stop and watch it for a while. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

I don't hear that in my area, although, fencing is low on most people's list of sports. I consider golf and baseball games. It takes physical talent to play either, but that doesn't make them sports like football, hockey, or even fencing. I think Charles Barkley said it best about Tiger Woods. Somebody asked him about Tiger's athletic ability, and how he might do in the NBA. Sir Charles responded, 'don't get crazy, just because some golfer's work out, doesn't make them athletes.'
Of course the definition of a sport is any fun diversion, so almost anything can be a sport, such as making fun of baseball. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

Array the polls are in, everyone goes back to 'by the sword', i have never seen it. but, i'm getting ready to go view another hindi movie. now you may not agree, but movies made in india are incredible, even the bad ones. i remember seeing a hindi movie that was so badly edited no one could follow the plot, but we didn't care it was a great film, the dancing was incredible, the vocals were incredible, one guy did pull out a sword and sang, he was great. -

I agree: when the majority of the crowd arrives in the third, leaves in the seventh, and doesn't pay a lick of attention to the game, it is a waste of a good day. however, here back east, live baseball is VERY exciting.
As for not being able to see the ball, maybe you should check your eyesight... I have NEVER had any trouble picking up the ball (pretty good sample size... I am at probably 60 or 65 of the Sox home games, and sit in all parts of the park.

Array Achilleus, first I would like to know why baseball is not a sport but football, hockey, basketball etc. are? If you compare, say Nomar Garciaparra to say Shaquille O'Neill, you will see, Nomar, the lowly baseball player, is in much better shape then Shaq. -

Array Come on people, everygame game, sport or whatever takes skill and ability to do. Lets not sit around and bash other people's sports. I am sure that all you of have run into people who think that fencing is silly or strange. However, we know that it takes a great deal of time, dedication and skill to perform. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.
