| Sword Master Series I (TV & Webcast) Sep 2, 2006 - Sep 3, 2006 The tournament this weekend will have dedicated referees. There will be no self directing from the pools. This season's championship has $6000 in prize money or fencing gift certificates (you pick the vendor) for anyone who wishes not to recieve money (current or future NCAA folks). You need to be a USFA member to compete. There will be a mask and lame check as well as weapon control on the strips. Pre-registration can be found on askfred.net

| prizes this weekend Sorry, about that. The prizes for the weekend are the big broad swords for both men and women. Trophy for second and medals for third and fourth. The prize money for the championship in April is provided by Contemporary Benefits, thanks to vice-president John Kral. His company has seen the growth of fencing and would like to see it grow even further as a spectator sport. We are happy to have the sponsors and support and hope to see you their.
We are working on the ability to web cast the finals for people who would be interested.

is that $1k/event or $2k/men's event, or $2k/combined events?

| prizes the summer nationals entry is still one for the point winner for the season. The money is $2000 per weapon. $1500 for the mixed overall and $500 for the ladies in the event. We have a letter that will explain it that will be sent to all the past participants (askfred.net email) from last season and will be mailed to clubs in the next couple of weeks. Hope to see you there.

| Couple of questions (also for those who will likely not receive the letter, but might be interested):
How are points distributed, how many results will count in the end (all or best x, etc), how will ties be broken, etc? Couldn't find any such document on your club site. (And I for one would like to know the answers to these before I make any plans, one way or the other.)
Also, do you have any deals with surrounding hotels, to make it more palatable for those from out of town? (For that matter, do you have a list of inexpensive places to stay?)
Just thought it might be good to have this info online.
An idea (mostly for future reference): From the descriptions, I'm assuming that the prize money is one chunk only to the winner... It might have more pull if the prize money were split up a bit, maybe between the top 4... Just a thought. |

| more information This year we are pleased to announce the $6,000 in prize money. The $6000 dollars will be divided between the three weapons. In addition, the women will get ¼ of the prize money automatically.
This prize money is possible through the sponsorship of our series through John Kral and his company Contemporary Benefits Inc. John Kral is an avid veteran fencer at the Knights of Siena Fencing Academy and has competed in many of these events himself last season. He has been one of our greatest commentators for the television show that has been airing on cable access and we are very fortunate to have him and his company’s support of the Swordmaster Series.
The prize money will be awarded at the Swordmaster Series Championship event which will occur on April 14th and 15th. Prize money will be awarded to the top 16 competitors in the mixed event (see our website for break down), with a guaranteed prize amount going to the top 8 female competitors. If one of the women place high enough in the top 16 to earn more money than they would in the women’s placement then that slot for the women will drop to the next eligible woman fencer.
Eligibility to fence in the championship event in April will be eligible only to the top 48 men point holders and the top 16 women point holders. Should an eligible point holder not pay and pre-register for the final championship then the next eligible point holder shall have the opportunity to register for the event and so on until the full slate of 64 fencers is filled.
We will have dedicated referees for all the Swordmaster events this season. We will be testing lames, mask, and weapons. Furthermore, all events will be contested in the SC division and be under the office of the same, not the North Carolina division as last year.
We hope that you are able to make the event again this year and would encourage you to bring a few of your fencing friends.

| hotel information I will have hotel information posted this evening. Sorry for not having the information. There are at least two hotels right next to the mall because of Paramount Carowinds in across the street. Now that Carowinds is out of season rooms should be cheap.

| prizes Maybe next season depending on the sponsor. Contemporary Benefits wanted a lot of people to get something in the final event and they footed the bill. If there are other people or organizations that would like to sponsor more money for only the top 8 or 4 or winner for that matter that would be great. Thanks for the input we hope to see you on Saturday.

| thanks to all We would like to thank all the people that came the event. We will be posting all the results on askfred.net after the SC division has reviewed all the results and the USFA forms to ensure that everyone who brought evidence that they were a USFA member are indeed a member. Anyone that recieved a new rating will be notified by us once the SC secretary has confirmed and informed us.
We would also like to thanks the dedicated refs (TN, NC, SC)that made for a great event where people did not have to ref out of their pools. We will be updating the points list for the next tournament in October. If you intend to compete please register at askfred.net
