| Yet in Marching Band we never practiced in uniform except on game days. Of course, CT probably doesn't get over 100 degrees for more than a day or two in a row.
(I don't encourage lessons without jackets, but this example seemed ill chosen to me.)
Edit - Ryan, will you stop going around posting in threads just before I do? |

| The only times I've taken a lesson with a jacket have been when getting a quick warm-up with my coach before big comps, and that's only for practical reasons really. I guess my experience mainly applies to epee lessons, but the few sabre lessons I have taken have been no different. If your coach makes proper cuts and is not actively trying to hurt you it's really a non-issue. |

Contributing to the thread (I hope...), most of my lessons are taken without full uniform, unless otherwise dictated (i.e. at NACs etc.). Personally, I don't see a problem with that (obviously), but I understand the counterarguments for liability reasons. |

If you want to know what it is like then you and a friend put on a crash helmet and then run at each other from opposite ends of the room. If you want the best experience then get your friend to hit you in the parts of the body that are not covered by padding.

| Obviously my comment was in jest, but I'm surprised to see that you are an advocate of american football, Hades, judging by your location. Traitor :P |

Traitor :P | There is actually a British League. www.bafl.org.uk don't knock the game until you have tried it. We get many rugby players that come down and leave very quickly when they get hit. What can I say - I love the Americans - especially those Californian girls, I wish they all could be them.

| I would not prefer to be a California girl. Also, I prefer many other types as well, and a loss of diversity in this category is to be universally deplored. |

| I don't know that ANY loss of diversity in this matter is bad... for instance, officially removing Janet Reno from the list of women (and thereby reducing diversity) is not a bad thing, in my mind. And there are plenty of other women who could be added to the category.
I would, however, say that reducing anything beyond individually chosed representatives is questionable. . .
