| Actually, a fun 7 weekends! We started the weekend of August 18, and finished the weekend of Sept. 29. We did 2 fencing demonstrations to show all 3 weapons, and held a mini-tournament at 4pm, fencing dry foil. We'd get the audience involved with the demonstrations, but due to time constraints and the intricacies (sp?) of touch judging, didn't use audience participation during the tournaments. We had a lot of interest, and 3 of the students in my new beginner's class that began on Sept 14 signed up because of their exposure from last year's Festival.
On the last day of the Fest, my friend Sean and I fenced dry sabre with our Radealli sabres from Negrini that we purchased for the Italian Dueling Sabre Tournament at AHFI in June, while in full costume. I in my kilt, Sean wearing my orange pirate costume, our fencing gloves, and a mask. When we were done, the whole bunch of seats were filled with people wondering if we were some sort of show, or what! We treated them to quite a show. Since Sean and I fence together so much, neither of us can hit the other on the first action (rarely), so our phrases were 3-5 actions long, making it looked like choreographed stage fighting, but we were really landing LOUD touches (because of the fabric of our costumes), and wearing our masks with our costumes. I think that was the most fun we had during our whole time there!
We also teamed up with Michigan State Fencing and the Ring of Steel to run 2 Bunny Fencing Booths to raise money for our clubs. While we did well financially, we are still waiting for our check to arrive from Ring of Steel. In case you don't know what "Bunny Fencing" is, it's where you put 2 balloons on a mask, and place the combatants in a small ring with sabres, and they try to pop the ballons of their opponent. We'll have pictures of that pretty soon, I hope.
I just pray we don't have to go to court to get our check...

| Well, but then, normalcy is overrated.

| No one who works at the Renaissance Festival is normal. Where would the fun be in that?

| NOthing abnormal about a kilt... I own a great kilt myself... couldn't wear it this year though. Getting into that thing is a major undertaking... and absolutely can't be done in the tiny backstage area we had... and with the 2 demos and the tourny each day, that would have meant wrapping 9 yards of cloth around me every time... No way...
But, it was a lot of fun!!!! And for next year, I will ahve my chain shirt done...

| Forget the kilt. What about orange pirate costume? If it's stored in a glass case in the living room with elegant track lighting, you need to seek professional help... now! |

| Better that, than that he wear it under his everyday clothes, hoping for the opportunity to "sail the Chatered Accountant-Seas"...

| Since I know well the costume Doug is speaking of, I can assure those of you who may be inclined to go to Fantasy Land to write stories about it that it was not "orange" so much as a darker, burnt color.

| 355, I did seek professional help. That's why the track lighting looks so good on the glass case. |
