Quit (no longer with us)
Array i'm upset i tried to help another fencer the other day. i saw an ad from my office about a rare opportunity to appear in something that i know he has an interest in. he wrote back a really tacky response. what should i do.
1. don't help another fencer
2. let him find his own opportunities
3. sink or swim
4. fix your own weapon

Array If your offer was met with derision, you should write off that person as someone you should not cultivate. Seriously, don't waste your time. If they said anything less than, "Thank you for thinking of me and sending the information, but I cannot take advantage of it at this time," they do not deserve your time, thought, or attention. -
Another thought... depending on what your relationship is with this person, you could contact him and say.... hmm, I'm curious about your response.... what did you mean? I live to fence and fence to live!! -

Array Are you sure he understood what you were saying? I have a lot of trouble making heads or tails of what you're saying on here, it might just be a misunderstanding. -

There's a missing part of this story that's between when you saw an ad and when he wrote back a tacky response. Who wrote back a tacky response? The advertisement contact or the other fencer? -

Array 355, I though I WAS the "grammar Nazi", darn it. Oh well.
As for the original question. If the guy was rude to you, his loss, don't help him anymore, by all means be civil to him, but no use wasting effort on someone who won't appreciate it, however I wouldn't let this experience sour you on the experience of helping other fencers. Be nice, how others react to you is their problem and ultimately on their heads when Karma, or judgement or whatever happens. One cat leads to another--Ernest Hemingway.

I know this topic is dead, but I just wanted to say that 355 had a very valid point.
I also was unclear on who wrote the tacky response. From the original message, it could have been either the person posting the ad or the fencer she told about the ad. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. Similar Threads -
