    Who are AMD enthusiasts?

    Just wondering.
    Now, let's see some hands.

    Intel's in all 3 of my machines... The early AMD's were all rather flaky in spots... From what I have been hearing though, the newer ones are pretty stable and fast. So, maybe my next one will be an AMD.

    Oh! Who's the computer geeks!!!

    Ha Ha Ha

    Why? Is there some sort of stigma attached (in the USA)?

    Gav,

    I am proud to be a computer geek... bought my first computer (with my own, hard-earned money) when I was 12. So, that was 14 years ago... now I have 3 computers at home, all of them custom-built by myself.

    I have not yet encountered a social stigma over here in the US yet, but then again, most of the people I hang out with are either fencers (and therefore smart and open-minded) or have a computer on their own. They might not be experts or "computer geeks", but they are not prejudiced against computer users.

    This might all be different in high-school... But then again, the football jocks that terrorized the computer geeks back in highschool now beg their former victims to give them jobs as night-watchmen and janitors at their multi-million software companies...

    [disclaimer] This is by no means an insult to Night-Watchmen and Janitors. They are all valuable jobs and we couldn't do without them. [/disclaimer]

    Whoa, ease up!

    Sorry no offence intended. My girlfriend refers to me as a computer geek. I knew what AMD was in computer terms but I didn't see the point of the original post. If there's no stigma then why ask who's got an AMD. For the record I have a PIII 500.

    Just want to see what is the distribution of Athlon among fencers.

    AMD == Good
    Intel == Evil

    Thank AMD for now one 1Ghz CPU is less than 100 bucks!!

    Had Chipzilla's monopoly gone unabated, we'd still be paying through our noses for a computer.

    I will also vouch for AMD as maker of a good product.

    I've been running AMD chips in my (personally built) machines since the days when a 486 DX/2 at 80 MHz was fast. AMD may have gotten a shaky start, but now they're making a good product at a good price. Just yesterday I bought parts for new machine centered around a 1333 MHz Thunderbird.

    I'll keep buying AMD as long as they stay the way they are: well priced and very competitive.

    I have an AMD chip. However, computer is giving me problems. I think maybe I got ahold of one of the earlier flaky chips. Gonna upgrade soon. Yeah, still going with AMD. Am I crazy or what?

    Does about the integer of a PIII 733 at 12W max dissipation. A Thunderbird @ 1.2GHz is what, 45W? It's like parries, efficient is fast is more effective. (Had to throw some kind of a fencing ref in here

    Dual cpus sounds like fun. Now that I have a cable modem at home, I've been playing Age of Empires II on the Zone nightly.
