| Has anyone noticed if there is a certain type (physical, psychological, emotional) that is drawn to certain weapons?
I haven't, but I'm not always the most observant. The only thing I've noticed is the obvious height difference between foilists and epeeists. It seems odd that so many tall people would be drawn to epee. Height is still advantageous in foil (speaking from experience).

You cannot win in sabre without yelling. (So that's why I lost all my bouts that only time I competed in sabre...)

Height is still advantageous in foil (speaking from experience). | It's common that tall people starting out get told that they should try epee, since many people think that tallness is some sort of advantage in epee that it's not in foil. In fact, I think it's the opposite. In foil you have to go to the body, so a long reach helps (i.e. you can hit the other guys target area before he can hit yours). But in epee this is not the case. As soon as you can hit his target area he can hit yours. So really, the conventional wisdom should be that tall people should do foil.

. | Well, as a rather tall foilist, who has been told repeatedly to switch to epee, that makes me feel better.

All epeeists I have known tend to be rather quiet, but they have a sadistic streak a mile wide.
My roomate's main weapon is saber, and she's very hyperactive. The saberists she fences all tend to be that way.
Foilists tend to be the people that are the most normal seeming to the outside world. That is, until you get to know us.

| Foilists tend to have height complexes.

| I fenced a little foil again over the weekend at a small local tourney. It was ... well, "not pretty" is accurate enough.
It was most amusing to stop action on a toe touch before my opponent could counter-attack in time. Losing the bout was worth that moment. Fortunately, no one expected better of me. |

When I fence epee, I like to get a drink every now and then. I sometimes check back in to see if I've scored yet. |
