| Well, I'd be okay with mixing epee and sabre... for example, sabre's ROW and target area (minus the arms and head, though), with epee's way of scoring (with the point only). |

| Couple of reasons:
- I started on my high school team which was foil only.
- First time I picked up an epee I thought it was heavy, especially in comparison to foil which I have been fencing with for awhile.
- Finally got to mess around with sabre in college. It's fun, but like you said it's a little too fast for me. I like taking more time to test out my opponent, and set up some beautiful touches. I also find myself running out of breath fast from running up and down and up and down the strips full speed continously. My endurance seems more fitting for foil.
- Watching epee (especially at the lower leve) puts me to sleep at times.
- I'm too lazy to guard my arm with the heavy epee guard.

| Resulting almost invariably in one if not both off-target lights.

| Let's consider though... if all the foilist in the world switched to saber, or epee, what would happen to the yellow/white light market?! It would be an economic catastrophe... and once one sector fails, all the other sectors of the economy would quickly crumble away too!
FOR THE GOOD OF THE WORLD ECONOMY WE MUST CONTINUE WITH FOIL!

Throw in flexible blades and parrys that dont get called and you end up with a total lack of subtlety. Really, most of what I've seen is just people running at each other from the go, and then screaming afterwards to see who'll get the touch (determined in some random fashion as best I could tell).
At least epee has subtlety and technique (nods to the epeeists), and many cute girls (winks to the epeeist girls)...

FOR THE GOOD OF THE WORLD ECONOMY WE MUST CONTINUE WITH FOIL! | Alarmist!
The white lights would still be necessary to indicate when there's a problem with sabre body cords shorting out.

The call of simultaneous actions indicates rather that a referee is unable to perceive a significant difference in extensions at the speed at which sabre is usually fenced.
IOW, it's not OUR fault!

What don't you like about the other weapons? In other words, why do you fence foil and not epee or saber?
As an example I think epee is boring, and I think saber is too fast. Foil finely balances speed, so it's not too fast, and it's not too slow. | Epee is as boring as watching paint dry. Yes I tried it. (I'm soiled!)
Epee is actually the bastard child of the fencing world.
Foil was created as a training tool to teach a fencer how to fence using every parry, attack and movement, while keeping harm from the competitors. With this in mind it lends itself well to sport.
Whereas epee was created in an attempt to mimic a real sword fight, but because neither competitor is in any danger either can attempt moves that wouldn’t be thought of in a real fight. This makes it a much “paler” version of a real fight. And since it is less advantageous to use parries in such a sport, few are used and half the challenge is removed. Epee is a second attempt at the rules, attempting to make sport fencing (or foil) be like a real sword fight, but fails at being good at either form of pugilism.
**If you wish to prove me wrong, please do so calmly. (Deep breaths) (Count to ten) (Keep a civil tongue)**
**I'm not actually trolling, I truly feel that epee has little to offer.**
Saber (from a spectator's point of view, because I've haven't tried it yet) looks like two saberist running at each other. The first to hit gets a point, but I’ll try before I report.

Sooner or later they will make sabre fencers wear these chips under their arm that will determine which fencer extended milliseconds earlier after "fence!" is called.

| Excellent attempt at reviving this post from the second page of death, bravo! Now, go out and learn to fence, then come back and we'll talk.

| Excellent bashing! Good style. THA's what I'm talkin'bout.
And you don't even need an epeeist sticking his nose into this thread (like me ... right now ... damn) to have a good time.
I'm very proud of your accomplishment here, and I hope this thread lasts a long, long time. (By the way, don't forget to insult sabreuers, too. They love the attention even more than us.)
On my way out, I'll leave you with some more easy material to snipe at:
In foil, I can't remember how many times it's polite to parry before I'm allowed to attack. We give each other two or three turns before trying score a touch, right?
Go ahead. Hurt me.
