| Proactiv blows Like every other teen, I've had pimples, and I've tried everything out there, proactiv, neutrogena, antibiotics, ect, and I always had results ranging from poor to detrimental. I think I've found something that works. http://www.acne.org/
I've been using it for the past year, and have improved my skin. Mind you, my skin isn't perfect yet, but I would reccomend it to anyone who has had acne issues and has not found satisfaction from other products. I feel like I would be doing a disservice to everyone if I did not tell yall about this.

| yeah proactiv really blows. i got my skin cleared up when i was in my late teens using antibiotics..then i went to college, ordered proactiv and it screwed up my skin..luckily once i got past the teen yrs the acne went away,
the only good thing about proactiv are the hotties that are usually selling it at the malls, . |

Unfortunatly, it does this by drying up your entire body. Your skin doesn't produce oil, but you don't sweat as much either.
In addition, women on it are required by law to also be on birth control, because of the horrific birth defects.
It has a number of other side effects... possible joint pain, etc etc etc......
Because of the specific kind of acne I have, Accutane has been brought up by more than one doctor as a possibility. However, I'm kind of worried about how it'll interact with my fencing, especially since I've been having trouble with overheating lately already.....

| I took Accutane long before I ever started fencing, but one fun side effect was that it boosted my triglycerides into the near-diabetic range. I had to avoid anything and everything that would elevate my blood sugar for the three months I was on it before I pitched it out and said "eff it, it's not worth it."
I haven't heard about it happening to anyone else, though. Your mileage may, of course, vary. |

| Yes, many women believe in proactiv sucking. But, it's a rather hard issue to pin down. You have to be willing to stick to your guns and not soften your resolve. However, I do think that in the end the payoff is worth the effort.

| hmmm, I had a good friend who was a relatively successful epee fencer on a national level that was on Accutane. Sadly he's a he so his experiences might not help you. I can put you in touch though if you want.

| I finished a course of Roaccutane which lasted approximately more than a year. My acne was terrible, I was on various antibiotics for more than a year to absolutely no avail. My face is now completely clear of acne. Only the occasional spot or two every now and then. Of course there's a bit of scarring from my acne, but overall my face is a lot better. The only side effects that really got me were really dry lips. I moisturise regularly for another skin condition so perhaps that helped too. I didn't find that it really affected my fencing at all.
However, other friends who have gone on the stuff have had bad experiences. One was on a very low dosage and she was still having a lot of trouble, even had to miss some school. Another friend had to stop taking the stuff after he was diagnosed with depression.
That said, from my personal experience Roaccutane is terrific. However it affects different people in all sorts of ways. |

| I used to use accutante a couple years ago, had a bad problem with acne on my back/face (needless to say changeing in the lockerroom was sorta annoying.)
I hadn;t started fencing yet, but really i didn;t have any side effects. my lips were chapped so i had to use lip balm every five minutes to keep them from busting open (and now that im used to moist lips i still have to use lip balm)
also my triglycerides went up, i didn't pay atention to it, as a teenager wiht no motivation to be in any shape whatsoever and a fast metabolism i didn't worry too much.
as far as never getting acne again, i still get the occasioanl pimple, but nothing that wont clear up in a day or two.
i should also mention that while on accutane, the amount of girl who showed interest definately went up
and as far as medical problem, msot doctors do blood tests every few months to make sure there isn't anything bad going on.
my doctor said i had a really good response to it, almost freakish, but eitherway it clears you up very quick. |

| Acne is God's way of introducing natural birth control during the hormone laden teen years -- you should all embrace it.

| Both my kids survived teenaged acne using "Betawash" by Eerno Laszlo. It worked better than any other wash, wasn't as drying as the proactiv products and as a liquid wash is easy to use in the shower. |

In my experience, it's embracing the teens with acne that starts the trouble in the first place.........
