| Armoring clinics? Does anyone know if any of these are held besides Armorer's College? I know some people in NJ who would be very interested in getting one together if there is anyone willing to do the instruction. I tried to find Ted Li's email (I know he's an olympic armorer and lives in the state) but was unsuccesful. Those of you who know him, would he be interested?

| Maryland division used to run them 1-2 times a year when I was there (94-98, so not current information). They also "certified" armorers (and then to stay current one had to work an event each half-season, but as long as one was current there was a $2 discount on all event entry fees (which were $5-7 during that time (so the discount was 40-28% of the cost of the tournament)), as well as free entry into the events worked). I still have the wallet card given to me a decade ago.
Connecticut division runs armoring clinics about twice/year, listed on their competition schedule.
I suspect other divisions do so as well, in addition to various club-organized events.

| Ted's e-mail address is TLi@pingry.org There is also Joe Byrnes. If you get American Fencing, you should know that name. Ted learned from Joe and is a great resource and far beyond of mere mortals. Joe does not have an e-mail address, but he does have a phone number. He lives in Roselle Park, NJ and is the only J Byrnes there.

| Contact Mr. Al Stecker (rosa_negra@msn.com); he attended the Armourer's Clinic held last year on the campus of the Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs. And give him my regards. |

| Sean,
Are you thinking of getting someone for your HS Team trained as an Armourer?
We (at Montclair HS) have been talking about getting some kids from the Robotic club (who we assume like to put things together) and get them to be team Armourer and reward their service with a Fencing letter.
If you need to set up a clinic, maybe we could do something together, or heaven forbid, maybe get the division or NJIFA to sponsor one.

| Rob,
I'd love to have you guys involved; this is actually coming because some of the parents wanted to learn how to fix their kids' equipment, but I don't see how it would be a bad thing to get more people involved. I'm also talking with Greg Dilworth about getting a reffing seminar sometime in the fall, would you or any of the Montclair people be interested in that? I'd love for the refs of the HS league to become more consistent (I've seen some highly... creative interpretations of the rules) and I think it's good for anyone involved in fencing to at least have a firm grasp of the rules.
My email is SeanTHoran@gmail.com if you or anyone else is interested.
Sean

| Rob (and whomever else is interested):
The clinic I spoke of is going to happen at 9 AM on Saturday, the 30th of this month, and will be run by Ted Li. The fee is 20 dollars at the door or 15 for those who preregister on FRED (link provided below.)
Ted will be going over diagnosis and repair of personal equipment and diagnosis of scoring equipment. His DVD will be on sale for 25 dollars.
It will be held in Hunterdon Central Regional High School, and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the school's team. http://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.p...nament_id=2523

I have NEVER performed in conditions like that...freezing cold rain, wind, soacked to the skin, etc...about the only really good thing about going on first in both prelims and finals was the rain hadn't yet washed away the field lines at Patec! |

My mom still lives in Buffalo (I was born and raised there). I get up there periodically. I could probably run something if it was worth while.
Buffalo would be easier for me, but driving to Rochester is not all that bad. |

| How come you haven't stopped by? (Or have you, and I just don't know your handle?) We would love to have you, and we are open 5-6 days a week.

RIT,
May I also suggest that you ask the kind folks at NJUSFA to post a notice on their website, and you might also want to send a notice via the NJUSFA mailing list. And while it is not that busy at the moment, there is a NJ HS forum ( http://www.nj.com/forums/hsfencing/) you can also post to, which seems to reach a number on non-USFA fencers.

| Of course that would raise the question of whether or not the division is particularly interested in advertizing clinics run opposite what has been billed as an extremely large tournament run/organized/hosted by the division chair.
Which, in turn, raises the question of whether or not that was the best weekend to select to run a clinic.
