August 19/20th Charlottesville Fencing Alliance will host our annual Back To School Brawl to kick off (pun intended) the VA Divisions 06/07 tourney year. This will be a Ratings Rally style event with U foil/D saber on Saturday and D foil/D epee on Sunday. This is traditionally a good sizes event with over 120 fencers attending last year so it is a great way to jump start the season before your first open!
There will be medals down to eighth and first place in all events gets a very spiffy sword! Actually it is almost too spiffy... This year we went a little overboard on the "1st place trophy" swords. They are high carbon steel, hand forged katanas, double pinned at the tsuka, are full tang and of course they have a proper blade taper and a 55-60 Rockwell edge and 40-45rc spine. They even have real buffalo horn scabbard throats and ray skin wrappings. These are the real deal and will perform tamashigiri cutting (don't worry, I used the one I got for myself...) with no problems, almost as good as some of my Last Legend and Bugei swords!
That does mean however that these are the "real deal" as far as being both trophies and functional weapons so you must be 18 or have someone who is accept the award for you! We will also be offering smaller prizes down to 3rd place. As usual we will have food (hotdogs, BBQ, soda, sports drinks etc) and some equipment vending on hand.
