Array Sitting/Standing at a Tournament Do you sit or stand between bouts at tournaments? Between pools and DEs?
I've heard support in favor of both sitting and not sitting, and wondered which factions the fine folks of f.net follow. "...But that doesn't mean that sabreurs aren't fun. They are, and tend to be better kissers as well which is more than reason enough to take my coach's advice and hang out with the sabreurs my age." - WP (best coach advice ever) -

Array Between rounds I like to lie down if I won't be fencing for a while. I like to keep moving between bouts, and keep stretched, maybe do a bit of footwork. "If I were ever to challenge you to a duel, your best bet would be battle axes in a very dark basement." Misquoted from The Prisoner
"Technical excellence is the antecedant of tactical creativity." - Nat Goodhartz
But those things which belong neither to God nor to Caeser, feeleth free to writeth them off, for yea, they are deductable. -
Yeah, I'm almost always stretching whenever I'm not fencing. (Well, provided I'm not hurrying around trying to fix my weapons.) So I'd say neither. "Life is like a wheel, where everyone steals, but when we rise, it's like Strawberry Fields." -

Array I was waiting for my next DE in a tableaux of 32 (which wound up being 30 min) so I decided to take a power nap. Worst idea EVER.
And then there was this time this past weekend where they had two super pools of 8 each and were double-stripping... and then they fenced me 3 times in a row with no breaks what-so-ever. I then passed out. -

Array This poll is..... ahem...
Anyway... I stand and walk and sit and stretch. Between pool bouts I'm usually standing or walking or stretching. If I sit, I find that my legs won't be ready for the next bout. Between pools and DEs, I'm usually sitting or walking around, and then stretching when it comes close to starting my DEs. Between DEs I'm usually sitting for a few minutes, and then walking around and stretching before the start of my next DE.
It's a good idea to walk around and stretch to keep your legs warm and ready to go. A synonym is a word you use when you can't spell the word you first thought of. -
Since I'm a ref, sitting whenever possible is critical, although I still do too little of it. -

Array If I can sit on a chair, I do. I don't sit on the floor, though. My blood pressure is fairly low (always impresses the doctors when I have a checkup...) and I tend to get quite dizzy if I stand up quickly from sitting on the floor. Dizzy =/= how I want to feel at the start of a bout. -

Hahaha, oh no! Man, last local tournament I went to, it was hot as HELL inside the gym and no place on the entire campus was open to sell water or drinks at all. So I went to the local 7-11 on the break between pools and DEs. Got back in time to find out they were giving me my 3rd call on the strip. Tee hee. its good to give your feet a rest for a little while, but i've found that the longer i sit the more tired and lazy i get! SO i sit for maybe ten minutes, but then I walk around and talk to people -

If I can sit nearby between bouts, I will. I get up and start moving/bouncing around when the bout before mine looks like it will soon be over.
But I'm not really picky. In the past, I've often had to referee, keep score, etc., between my bouts at local events. Even if I'm not refereeing, smaller venues at some local events often don't really have enough room for me to sit down and be near enough to keep an eye on my strip. I also don't sit as much when there aren't pools of 7. In a pool of 7, there's more rest time between my bouts. In a pool of 5, I tend to stay standing because I'm likely to be called to strip fairly quickly. -

Array use a chair You can sit, you can stand, but I prefer sitting on a chair. The problem with sitting is that your body heat excapes into the ground and that just defeats the purpose of your warmups and is bad for your mucles. I sit on chairs, less volume for the heat to excape into (prefferably a newly vacated chair because it might still be warm). Or better yet, sit on someone sitting on a chair. That way their body heat will rise into you, and you stay all nice and warm, no pulled muscles. -
I can't focus if I'm sitting. If I cool down, my mind goes to other things. Moving, keeps me physically, and emotionally at a good place. -
I mostly sit, getting up to do a little warm-up before the bout before mine is over. My knees can't take a lot of standing around. -
Depends. If I'm at one of those tournaments where I know I've got a few hours before DEs really start going, I know that I'll exhaust myself trying to stay warm, so I sit down and rewarm up before DEs. Otherwise, I stay active so I don't become stiff.
Between bouts I stand, for the most part. -

Array I recline in my sedan chair whilst my servitors carry me around the venue.
Ahem. Mostly I stand; occasionally I sit a little; once in awhile I lie down; rarely I will kneel or squat down, if only to tie my shoes. But there are no poll options for the latter three options, therefore---what Akaiyuki said.
There are four of me now. It's true that my name is legion, but apparently I will soon BE a legion as well... Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -
also, the poll is flawed because there is no option for "This poll is flawed and I'm NOT pretending to be Inq."
I'll usually pace nervously or talk to other people from my club, if there are any there. If not, I talk to random people while walking around. Just because it's funny: Originally Posted by Capt. Array I mostly stand - walking, talking, supporting/advising friends, scoping out the competition. I find if I sit down too much during breaks in the action, the old joints stiffen up and it takes too long to get them loosened up again. I just try to stay in relaxed motion when I'm not fencing. One test is worth a thousand opinions.
