What does BTH mean in the Vet listing?

If you look at the veteran listings, you'll see a column headed with BTH. The dates below look like birthdates and I had assumed that mine was simply incorrect and I'd correct it when I received the new membership card.

I received my new membership card with the letter to correct any incorrect information and my birthdate is listed correctly. The one on veteran status page has always been off by about 18 months.

Thus, I am curious. Are any of these dates supposed to be birthdates and if so, how does one go about correcting the information? I'm still a few years away from turning 60 so I've got plenty of time but I'd like to know how accurate this information is since I was looking at the 40 listing to see who will be joining us 50 veteran fencers next season.

It means Date of Birth. You wouldn't actually expect them to cross-reference these things would you?

Now my curiousity is further aroused. If they're not getting the birthdate from the USFA membership roster, where do they obtain this information?

I'm working on the assumption that the person generating the list is not simply using a program that generates random birthdates within the age range as the birthdates have been consistent from one posting to another.

I don't know whether or not this is a correct explanation, but the USFA has historically had a number of different databases (excluding the current "shadow" copy of the membership database (official database on an archaic USOC-owned/operated mainframe, "shadow" copy on a USFA server that will be taking over official duties with the new season)). The membership database was not the same as the database from which information was drawn for such things as seeding lists for NACs, and still another database was used for accounting purposes such as paying tournament officials (empirical evidence gathered from failure of changes of information to propogate between these various applications).

I'd guess that the BTH field you're seeing is in the tournament database, but the information with your card is from the membership database. One is correct, the other is not.

Best bet is to drop an email to something like info@usfencing.org with the correction.

Thanks. I had foolishly assumed a master database with links.
