| Sorry I really would love to help, unfortunately all the running sites I know are really quite pathetic and lame. Irf you are looking for training sets consult a running specialist (often found in the yellow pages)
If just advice, look around talk to whomever you can find. If you are like me, just do it yourself then prey to god it works, anything that does not kill you only makes you stronger!
Sorry, Kat

| My beautiful girlfriend Susan runs at least 2 miles every day, and she's 41. It kills me, because she doesn't sweat or breathe heavy after 2 miles!!! |

| Is she the one that still looks like she's 21 in the photos you posted?
If so, I think i've gotta start working up to that. I wanna look that great at 41 too.

| You just have to keep with it. In time, you will develope the endurance necessary to run.

| If you run once a week, December is WAY too soon to be looking at doing a marathon. Maybe December 2003 if you start putting in the effort now.
http://www.coolrunning.com
is a great reference site and includes things such as training schedules for all levels of runnings and all intended distances as well as tools such as training logs, etc.
Build mileage slowly. Adding mileage too fast is a really good way to hurt yourself.

| I'm no expert runner, but I agree with oiuyt. When I first started to run I tried to do 2 miles. It hurt. Don't do it. Last summer I got up to 3 miles a day. Unfortunatly I break a big sweat, and am 'a little' winded after running unlike Doug's gf. Lucky woman. I wish I didn't have to work to run
This year I've really been slacking off. School work got to be heavy, and that didn't leave me a lot of time for my usual sports (fencing, tennis, softball, running etc). So needless to say I'm getting a little out of shape. Oh well at least someone's running.

To use an old adage, no pain, no gain. To be honest, if half a block wears you out, you are not in good physical condition. As an added note, you can be skinny and not be in shape. |

| I'd agree with that
I'm naturally skinny but really unfit - I'm a lot fitter since I started going to the gym last year and took up hiking and fencing - but I'm still not fit.
I'm actually contemplating taking up running as well, it can only be good for me - no matter how much it hurts at first.

| Just start slow Caith. Think of how far you want to run. Say your goal is 3 miles a day. So you start with roughly a half a mile maybe less. Once you get really comfortable with that then push it up maybe to a mile, and once you're good with that go to 1 and a half, and just keep going until you run as much as you want.

| Well, Heidi, Susan has been running at least 2 miles a day since I've known her, and that's going on 5 years. We've been dating for 4 years+. The only time I have known her not to run is when we are away on vacation. I think that's part of what keeps her so young looking, is that she is in top physical shape. She'll be the first one to tell you it took a while for her to work up to the 2 miles, but she stuck with it. |

| Running the AT counts as considerably more than an ultra. I believe the current record is doing the 2,144 miles in 52 days by David Horton.
While there are undoubtedly several ultras that take place on (or partially on) the AT you might what to specify more.
