An open question for the tournament organizers and div officers in New Jersey

The website needs to be updated. We at one point in order to attract referees went to that model, but unfortunately, we attracted TOO many, and so people weren't able to earn alot of money because it was spread out amongst so many referees. We then immediately saw a drop of referees because they weren't making enough money under that method and went back to the flat rate method.

I don't know what the new officers will plan to do for this season.

The division sent out an email to referees yesterday.

The division pay scale for this year is $40 per pool & $5 per DE. If you are FOC rated 5 or better, there is a $25 bonus.

Variable pay without guarantees is, as mentioned previously (post #149), a discouragement for referees, especially those out of the immediate area. Committing a day, plus a 4-hour round-trip drive, without knowing what to expect in compensation isn't particularly appealing, even if the actual results should be completely acceptable.

The division may have gone to a flat-rate system, but if so they have returned to an a la carte system. The bonus for highly rated referees is new. There was no mention of an upper cap (previously $120), so that might have gone away. I can't seem to locate any mention of pay rates on the website any more, so that might have been updated off the site.

On to another topic...

EDIT: And I hope it's a really well attended event... I'm going to push it with my NJ friends. Positive reinforcement of such things can be an excellent way to make changes without angering as many people.

Brad, I believe that you are right. I probably sent the wrong message when I drove 80 minutes each way and spent $40 to fence in the Steve Sobel at the NJFA on Sunday./d
