3rd Annual Steve Sobel tournament

New Jersey's biggest fencing tournament will be held in NJ's premier fencing facility. The week-end of Sept 30-Oct 1, 2006 New Jersey Fencing Alliance(16000 sq ft of fencing (20 tournament strips) with a parking that can handle 250 cars) will host the 3rd annual Steve Sobel tournament. We hope to entertain 500 plus fencers over the weekend including all of the area Fencing.net regulars
We're located in Maplewood/So. Orange, 25 min from Penn Station, NY via NJ Transit and easily accessable from Philly, NYC, Long Island, Westchester and all of NJ. (Seewww.njfencingalliance.com for directions)
Most, if not all of the open events on Sunday will be potentially A-2 events.
Our community is one of the most fencing friendly small towns in the USA.
Our Mayor was a fencer (quit because of bad knees) Our HS has the best HS fencing program in the country. Columbia HS has 150 active fencers in its varsity program and our lady cougars are State Champs for the last 4 yrs and for 8 out of the last 9 yrs.
Nicole Mustilli, Holly Buechel, Ibtihaj Mohmmed, Abby Caparros-Janto, A'sha Brumant and the Kaneshiges, Christine and Brian are some of the fencers who come from Maplewood/so. orange.
Come and enjoy the fencing and meet the Mayor, Steve Sobel, Denise O'conner and many other dignitaries. SEPT 30-OCT 1, 2006 Don't forget!

Actually, the Denise O'Connor and the JO qualifiers are vastly bigger than your event. Even the Division Championships....

And based on last year's attendance of 113 fencers, I don't know why you would be expecting 500 fencers...

from nc

I will see if I can get a large group up Frank to come from NC. I will try to bring at least two A's and a B in sabre.

Steve sobel Saber

We hope to have a large contingent of Metro saber fencers competing on Sun.
especially many of the PWF fencers. Keep checking the pre-reg list on Ask Fred ( we haven't put the tourney up yet out of respect for the NJUSA tournament committee which meets on Sat.)

It's not a bad event, but it seems overpriced. 40 dollars for a 19 person B2 (Men's epee being the only thing I'd fence in)?
