SW Connecticut I've been out of fencing for a few years, and would like to get back into it. However, I've just relocated to a new area (Stamford CT) and am unfamiliar with the fencing scene around here.
Since I've read these message boards for quite a while, I thought maybe someone might be able to offer some help/opinions. It looks like the Fencing Academy of Westchester is the closest club to me. Does anyone have any experience with, or thoughts on, this club? I fence women's saber, so any info about that would be great.
Thanks in advance! -
FAW is a terrific club. My son has been fencing at FAW since it opened, and has had nothing but positive experiences. Terrific coaches in all three weapons. And a great facility. I'd suggest that you drop by to see the club and meet the coaches. -

Array I have to put in my two cents and suggest our club in Danbury - Candlewood Fencing Center. We've been members for four years now - no complaints. Same suggestion - stop in and meet everyone, check times, rates, etc. Our saber group meets Monday & Thursday evenings 7:30 till whenever we're done. We also have a small group that meets fairly regularly on Saturdays. Summers are slow right now - most of our kids are either in camp or leaving for camp and classes are slow - will be picking back up in the next few weeks. We have several people that drive up from NY to fence with us - it all depends on what your looking for. -

Array I have heard only good things about the Fencing Academy of Weschester. One of the current UMD fencers came from there.
However, the only Westchester fencers I know are foil fencers (of both sexes), so I can't really say anything about their sabre. My suggestion would be to check it out and see what you think -

Array I would invite you to visit Fairfield County Fencing Club in Southport. Stop by and ask to speak to Paul Luciano the coach - he's very approachable. It also happens to be where I fence! -

Array I live in Rye, which is not far from Stamford. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, and whether your chosen weapon has a strong presence in said club. Also, do you mind fencing with kids? or are you looking for a more mature crowd? I tried the FAW, but I was turned off by the price range. You could pay the same amount and join the Fencer's Club in NYC, which is an amazing club, has a strong presence for all three weapons, and is not too far on an express train ride, or car ride during offpeak hours. There is also NAFA on the upper west side, which is not very far away on a ride during offpeak hours, and the membership fee is awesome for what you get. However, I am not too sure of how strong a sabre presence they may have (I fence foil). I hope this helped. Looking into the clubs in Southport and Danbury may also be worth a look. Similar Threads -
