Dual residency and multiple div/sect memberships?

Can a fencer with homes in, say, two different states belong to multiple USFA divisions or sections?

However, If you live in one section, get a several year long USFA memebership, and then move, you can (at the end of a season) move to a different division/section.

How about if I registered in one state under my professional "stage" name? You know, the name I use on the radio? That must certainly be OK to do, I'd think.

Oh, the difference between "things you could probably get away with for a while" and "things that are morally right"......

But you'd have to pay dues twice, and you certainly wouldn't get twice the up time on the USFA website...........

Why would you want to be registered in multiple divisions/sections anyhow? Two have two shots at qualifying for Nationals? Clearly if that's all you're after, register in the weaker division and call it a day. But no, once you pick a club, you're pretty much a member of that club, it's division and section, for the year.

One reason I've encountered for wanting to be in two divisions: If you'll be at home for JO quals, but at college for div 2/3 quals, or something like that.

    From the Athlete's Handbook:

    1.4.6. Division and Section Affiliation
The Division that a member can declare is based on his or her residence, location of the school that member is attending, or location of club that the member will represent in USFA competitions. Each year a member must declare the Division affiliation for that membership year.

That division is then the one from which the fencer must qualify to the USFA National Championships and the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships. The member may request a change in division if he or she moves to a new geographic location and notifies the USFA office of the new address and division change request in writing. Members who are living or working for
an extended period of time outside of the United States or are in the military on a full time basis can request “National” Division affiliation. Appeals on the basis of missing a Division qualifying competition due to going to school elsewhere will not be considered.

    ...

If a fencer represents a club that closes during the season with no plan of reopening in the future, or if a fencer makes a permanent move of physical residence into another geographical area, that fencer may request to have his or her club representation changed, subject to approval. The resignation of a coach, conflict within a club, or change of affiliation due to either will not be recognized as justification to change club representation. A fencer in this situation will have to either remain with his or her stated club or fence unattached for the remainder of the season.

Of course, lots of people in college often don't have much in the way of recent USFA competition to show...... And, depending on the team, they might not have had much Collegiate competition.

    But, you are right.........

And you'd probably be put in a pool with yourself at some tournament, and be black carded for not reporting to strip. How much fun would that be?

I s'pose I'll just have to use the legal ID of my dearly departed twin brother, then. He would have wanted it that way.

Inq could help us out on this one. I heard he was in a similar situation; murdered his brother or something, then fenced under his name. What was that name again.... oh, now I remember. It was "Abel".

And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain fenced his wife...

Clearly, this is the origin of mixed events.

Confining your wife in a little enclosure is a great way to start marital discord...

Pffft, this was way before they came up with the whole "sports zone" idea.

If you just wanted to fence more, most likely you could fence in open meets that don't really count towards anything, right?
