Rammstein is a European rock band. They tend to be a little on the heavy side. They've got a better style than most bands these days, but that really isn't saying too much.
Even though I am 21, I tend to listen to 80's. Not that bubbergum crap like the Go Go's, but New Order, The Cure, etc.

Hey! I like the Go Go's.
And I long ago watched 21 disappear below the horizon in my rear view...

Well, I'm 27 and I haven't listened to anything "modern" in years. I guess I'm too much of a hippie-chick. I basically listen to the "classic rock" station. I guess being into words--I'm a writer, to some extent anyway--I like songs where you can still mostly understand what the artist(s) are saying and where you might actually want to (I know what the Backstreet Boys are saying, but I really couldn't care less ) The truth is the concert I'm really annoyed to have missed is Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. They came here, but I decided not to go, now I wish I had.
After the Grammys I found myself trying to explain to my cousin's children (ranging from 14-3) that despite being scary looking and not having had that great of a night vocally, Bob Dylan is really cool.
Lately I'm into Celtic folk music kind of stuff too--word thing again I think.
I must say having seen their lyrics, I did under estimate Rammstein. I'd definitely take them over the boy bands, or that ***** Britany Spears (unfortunately Maddonna's still a bigger *****, but not by much).
Enough about me.

Yes, I uterrly despise Backdoor Boys and that ***** Britney, and all of her stupid teeny bopper counterparts.
Celtic music is very interesting. I rather like the mystical, Merlin sounding sort. You can buy those at Books A Million (do you all have those?) Its a bookstore similar to BarnesandNoble and Amazon, although much smaller I think. One of our fencer's plays in a local Celtic band here in Texas. It is very interesting to hear them.
Rammstein has some good lyrics, they definately have their own style. I'm still pretty big on the depressing music of the 80's. I tend not to like happy music, too fake Still, I need to get out of it. Its hard to think happy thoughts when your music is telling you life sucks.
Classical is wonderful for thinking. I like to listen to it while I read books.

Sorry, hey I like Gary Numen, A Flock of Seagulls, Aha, Culture Club (only remotelly), the Fixx and all that sort, just not the go go's

OK, you know you're a fencer when you feel the need to join other fencers chatting about music preferences and feel compelled to tell them that you like music written by JS Bach- which is rather masochistic to perform!

D'Artagnan1673,
Which Bach pieces do you favor?
For me:
All the Brancenburg Concertos (I've performed them all!)
Tocata and Fugue and
The Double Violin Concerto!
OK, brag time- last Saturday, I performed the first movement of the Violin Concerto in A minor for a Bach Birthday Party I attend annually. I invited my fencing teacher and saluted him with my bow after the final note!

My favorites are:
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Most anything from the Bandenburg Cocerto's
My favorite is the Andante from Bandenburg Concerto # 4
I don't really know too much about classical music other than I like it. Its very relaxing and soothing. It really sets a good atmosphere listening to classical music while reading a good Romance novel with a glass of wine!

I found a bandana rolled up and tied around the forehhead a-la 80s hair-metal style works as a brilliand 'spacer' and very washable sweatband combo.
You know you're a fencer when you don't mind looking like a cross between Jon Bon Jovi and a skinny Michelin Man.

You know you're a fencer when you're disappointed that Text Twist (an on-line word game) doesn't recognize epee as a real word. I was looking forward to getting the right combination of letters to use it and then it wouldn't let me. I'm a foilist, but, still any chance to work fencing related words into anything makes me happy. I guess I'm just easily entertained <img src="graemlins/freak2.gif" border="0" alt="[Freak]" />

I'm surprised that Marc (Cthulu) hasn't chimed in here on the Du Hasst Mich song! He's from Germany, and I asked him this past summer for the translation, and he assured me it was "You Hate Me". If you listen to the song, you'd have to agree that's a safe bet, since it sure doesn't sound like any mushy ballad! If I remember what Marc said correctly, it went this way:
"You
You hate,
You hate me
You hate me, and I didn't do anything
Will you be true for all the days
until death divides us
No. . ."
At the time (August '01), my girlfriend and I were fighting, and this became my theme song. I'm happy to report that things are peachy again!

Rammstein do have "mushy ballad" lyrics from time to time but THIS song is based on the hast/hasst pun. You left out the key line:
Du hast mich gefragt - und ich hab nichts gesagt
You have asked me - and i said nothing
In the first part of the song he makes you wonder if he means have or hate but in the 4th line he makes it clear: You have asked me...
I knew an American guy by the name of Jeremy Dennison, who got this instantly after only one semester of learning german.
(Hi Jeremy, are you out there?)
You know you're a fencer when......
you've put on a few pounds from eating a wee bit too much on vacation and you stratagize your plan for weight reduction in the same manner as fencing.....a pound at a time is like a point or touch at a time! In my case it's a 5 pound bout! Thus far, 1 pound down, 4 to go!
